Covington & Burling, a distinguished global Am Law 35 firm, is seeking a forward-thinking Business Development Manager to support the International Trade and National Security industry teams within its high-profile Regulatory practice.
This role is well suited for a proactive professional ready to step into a visible leadership position and make an immediate impact. Alongside a high-performing business development and marketing team, the Manager will spearhead strategic business development, marketing, and communications initiatives.
The role in action:
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify priority clients, execute targeted business development initiatives, and support strategic planning, budget oversight, and quarterly practice reviews.
  • Manage and coordinate pitches, RFP responses, and client meeting preparation, while tracking and reporting on business development performance and outcomes.
  • Support the successful integration of lateral attorneys through strategic positioning and execution in partnership with practice leadership.
  • Monitor regulatory, industry, and competitive trends to inform practice growth, and support high-impact sponsorships, speaking opportunities, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive marketing and business development support, including events, content development, directory and award submissions, communications, and database management.

We are seeking candidates who:
  • Bring 5+ years of experience in business development, marketing or other professional services settings; prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and leadership skills, a proactive and accountable work style, and the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
