Job description

Position: Lead Apigee Developer
Location: Concord, CA
Duration: 6 Months +

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Apigee Developer to design, develop, and manage enterprise-grade API platforms using Google Apigee. The role requires deep expertise in API design, security, and lifecycle management, with a strong focus on scalable, high-performance integrations.

A candidate with a strong Java/J2EE background and integration experience (microservices, middleware, ESB) will be highly preferred.

 Key Responsibilities:

•                   Lead the design, development, and implementation of API solutions using Apigee (Edge/X/Hybrid)

•                   Define and enforce API design standards, governance, and best practices

•                   Build and manage API proxies, shared flows, policies, and security frameworks

•                   Implement robust API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting, threat protection)

•                   Design and develop integration solutions across systems (cloud/on-prem)

•                   Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of APIs

•                   Work closely with architecture, product, and engineering teams to enable digital transformation initiatives

•                   Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and code reviews

•                   Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and optimize API performance

•                   Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for API deployments

 Required Skills & Experience:

•                   8+ years of experience in software development and integration

•                   4+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee (Edge/X/Hybrid)

•                   Strong expertise in:

    • API development and lifecycle management
    • RESTful APIs and API standards
    • API security (OAuth, JWT, etc.)

•                   Experience with API gateway policies, debugging, and analytics

•                   Strong understanding of cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred, AWS/Azure acceptable)

•                   Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git, etc.)

•                   Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

 Nice-to-Have / Preferred:

•                   Strong background in Java/J2EE (Spring Boot, Microservices)

•                   Experience with integration technologies (ESB, middleware, Kafka, messaging systems)

•                   Exposure to OpenShift/Kubernetes-based deployments

•                   Experience in financial services or enterprise-scale platforms

•                   Knowledge of API monetization and developer portals

 Leadership Expectations:

•                   Drive API strategy and roadmap alignment with enterprise architecture

•                   Mentor junior developers and guide best practices adoption

•                   Act as a technical SME for API and integration architecture
