Position Summary
The candidate will assist the department teaching medical students, residents and fellows in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Other duties include assisting the department and providing clinical patient care in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases in the hospital and clinics, as well as providing care via telemedicine.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching & Educational Mission
  • Teach infectious disease topics to medical students through lectures, seminars, outpatient clinics, and inpatient ward teams.
  • Develop and deliver resident education in Infectious Disease, including supervision on infectious disease consultation services, provision of core infectious disease lectures, and participation in morning report and other educational conferences.
  • Deliver 1-2 lectures annually during Medicine Grand Rounds on topics relevant to general internal medicine.
  • Serve on College of Medicine educational committees related to curriculum, assessment, or program development, as well as Medicine committees in support of institutional governance and academic missions.
  • Function as a faculty member in accordance with the statutes, policies, and procedures of the University of Illinois.

Clinical Care Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient infectious disease consultation as an attending physician, including supervision of trainees and delivery of care via in-person and telemedicine encounters.
  • Maintain an ambulatory clinical practice, dedicating approximately 1-2 half-days per week to the care of patients with HIV infection and/or other infectious diseases.
  • Participate, as interested and available, as a general internal medicine hospitalist attending physician on a resident teaching service.
  • Function as a member of the medical staff in compliance with the bylaws and regulations of the university-affiliated hospital(s).
  • Serve on appropriate hospital committees aimed at improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care, such as infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, or hospital formulary committees.

Research & Scholarly Activity
  • Support and contribute to the research and scholarly activities of the Department of Medicine and the Section of Infectious Disease, including clinical research, educational scholarship, quality improvement initiatives, and mentorship of learners in scholarly work.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Medicine, consistent with departmental needs and institutional priorities.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess MD, or DO, or equivalent degree.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible for certifying examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine or comparable certifying authority in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.
  • Five (5) years training (three years in Internal Medicine residency and two years in Infectious Disease fellowship).
  • Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois.
  • Must be eligible for medical staff appointment at university-affiliated hospital.
  • At least five (5) years' experience as an Assistant Professor are required for the title of Associate Professor.
