Job description

We anticipate the need for one or more One or More Journeyman/Advanced Step Apprentice Lineman to join our team at our Fargo Service Center in Fargo, ND. The journeyman pay for this position is $62.27 according to "Exhibit A" wage scale. Depending on the level of our top candidate, an Advanced Step Apprentice will be coming in at the following percentage of Journeyman Pay:

5th Step: 80% of Journeyman rate

6th Step: 85% of Journeyman rate

7th Step: 90% of Journeyman rate

8th Step: 95% of Journeyman rate

This position will be posted for 10 Working Days from August 3, 2026, to August 14, 2026.

Summary

This position will work as part of an electric line crew operation and perform duties of the lineman classification involving construction, maintenance, and emergency repairs of all overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems in Xcel Energy service territory.

The successful candidate will be required to reside within a 20-mile radius of the reporting headquarters.

Required

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Must possess a degree/diploma from an accepted Line School or a state issued Journeyman certificate for an Advanced step position.

  • Must possess a state-issued Journeyman certificate and pass a company skills assessment for a Journeyman position

  • Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, and trenchers is required

  • Must be able to work at heights up to and above 100 feet.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, have good teamwork skills and be able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.

  • Must have a quality work ethic and be committed to optimum customer service.

  • Must be able to work additional hours, respond to after-hours and weekend call-outs

  • A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.

  • Must meet driver qualification requirements specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391, including possessing a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A.

  • Must live within a 20-mile radius of the Fargo Service Center.

  • This job will require the ability to work efficiently while performing the essential responsibilities of the position, which may include lifting and maneuvering.
