Job description

We anticipate the need for one or more Advanced Step Apprentice Gas Technician/ Journeyman Gas Technician to be located at our Montrose Service Center in Montrose, Minnesota. This position will require the successful applicant to reside within 20 miles of the Montrose Service Center. The rate of pay for a Journeyman is $52.25 hourly. The apprentice rate of pay will vary depending upon the step that you will be slotted in. The percentage rates are as follows:
- 3rd Step pay will be 75% of the Journeyman Rate ($39.19/hour)
- 4th Step will be 81.25% of the Journeyman Rate ($42.45/hour)
- 5th Step will be 87.50% of the Journeyman Rate ($45.72/hour)
- 6th Step will be 93.75% of the Journeyman Rate ($48.98/hour)
The position will be posted for 10 Working Days from June 30, 2026, to July 14, 2026.
Summary District regulator maintenance, odorization, meter testing, instrument calibration, meter and large regulator sizing/maintenance/installation, plastic pipe fusion, service regulators, odorization, meter and regulation, tapping, operational surveys, customer priority work, fitting, equipment operation, knowledge and ability to respond to gas leak (inside and outside) investigation/emergencies, gas leak repair, cathodic protection, locating, meter reading, valve maintenance and material handling.
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid Class A commercial drivers license (must meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391)
- Three or more years Gas Construction and/or Gas service experience
- Gas Technician experience preferred
- Ability to lift 50 pounds safely
- Must reside within 20 mi of the service center.
- Must Meet Operator Qualification requirements.
Special Requirements
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment
- Direct customer contact experience desirable
- Position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Pass the Gas Respirator Qualification test
- Subject to residency requirements and on-call duty on a rotating basis
- May require rotating or off shift working hours

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $39.19 to $52.25 per hour
