Responsibilities

A Journeyman Operator Maintenance (JOM) is a Journeyman Operator assigned to a Hydro Operating area whose primary function is to operate the facilities. They should be knowledgeable of all power plants, water impoundments, water conduits, and switching in their operating area, as prescribed by the Company. A JOM will operate power plants, write and perform switching orders, and issue tag-outs on equipment within his area of responsibility. This includes generators, penstocks, and other associated equipment. A JOM will perform all the duties assigned that are the normal duties on a hydro project, within his classification and qualifications, including substation inspection, station and line switching, routine station checks, keeping a log, and performing maintenance tasks for which they have been trained. Maintenance tasks may include light vehicle maintenance, using multimeter and clamp-on ammeter test equipment, and changing shear devices on wicket gates. Other maintenance tasks could include performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and replacing non-generating low voltage equipment, gathering thermal data, performing exciter and collector ring brush maintenance on constant pressure rigging in generator equipment, and working under the direction of the appropriate craft when performing minor maintenance on solenoids, switches, and PLC's. 

Additionally, a Journeyman Operator Maintenance shall be qualified to do minor construction, repair and maintenance of facilities used in the hydro department, construction of roads, trails and bridges, mixing and pouring of concrete and they will operate designated mobile equipment. 

Requirements
  • Power plant operation and maintenance experience.
  • Must be able to pass Operator's qualification examination within 6 months.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 6 months.
