Job Planner information

What does a job planner do?

A Job Planner is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and coordinating the various tasks required to complete a project efficiently. They analyze project requirements, allocate resources, create timelines, and ensure that each phase of the project progresses smoothly. Job Planners work closely with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to ensure deadlines are met and potential issues are identified early. Their role is crucial for maximizing productivity, optimizing resource use, and minimizing project delays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a job planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Job Planner, you need strong organizational, scheduling, and project management skills, often supported by a background in engineering or construction and relevant certifications. Familiarity with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and ERP systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for collaborating across teams and adapting to project changes. These abilities help ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.

What are some typical challenges a job planner faces when coordinating multiple projects simultaneously?

Job Planners often manage several projects at once, which can make prioritization and time management challenging. Balancing the needs and deadlines of different teams requires strong organizational skills and clear communication. It's common to encounter shifting project scopes or unexpected delays, so adaptability and proactive problem-solving are essential. Regular collaboration with project managers, engineers, and vendors helps ensure that schedules stay on track and resources are allocated efficiently.

If you're someone who gets excited by making an impact through interesting challenges, you'll feel right at home.  IEM is currently seeking a Production Planner for our Jacksonville, FL location, reporting to the Production Planning Manager. The Production Planner is responsible for translating customer demand and forecast requirements into executable production plans that align with material availability and manufacturing capacity. This role focuses on mid- to long-term planning, capacity alignment, and cross-functional coordination to support efficient manufacturing operations and on-time delivery, leveraging ERP tools to drive data-based decisions.

Please note: This position requires 100% in-office presence at our Jacksonville offices and does not offer remote work.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain production plans based on customer demand, forecast data, material readiness, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Review customer orders and demand signals to validate production requirements and alignment with established lead times.
  • Collaborate with Production, Fabrication, and Engineering teams to ensure production plans are feasible and aligned with available resources.
  • Partner with stakeholders to support resolution of demand changes, material constraints, or capacity limitations.
  • Utilize ERP systems (INFOR preferred) to analyze demand, plan production requirements, and support manufacturing execution.

Capacity & Material Planning

  • Analyze labor, equipment, and material capacity to identify constraints and support informed production planning decisions.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and Materials Planning to ensure material strategies support production plans.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning meetings to align demand, capacity, and material availability across departments.
  • Support long-range and medium-range capacity planning initiatives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, reduce lead times, and enhance overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives such as Kanban systems, visual management, and standardized planning processes.
  • Support continuous improvement of ERP planning tools, data accuracy, and reporting practices.

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Act as a key planning liaison between production, materials, supply chain, engineering, and customer service teams.
  • Communicate potential capacity, material, or delivery risks to the Production Planning Manager in a timely manner.
  • Support cross-functional alignment when changes occur due to demand shifts, design updates, or supply disruptions.
  • The candidate will be expected to perform additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (required).
  • 3-7 years of experience in production planning or manufacturing planning within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (INFOR preferred).
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, lean principles, and capacity planning concepts.
  • Demonstrated career ambition with a track record of growth and increasing responsibility; highly promotable with the potential to take on broader leadership roles within a fast-paced, high-growth organization.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Compensation actually offered for this role will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
