Registered Nurse (S)

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

The Registered Nurse functions as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the coordination (to include ongoing assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation) of nursing care for residents living in a home at JIRDC. This care includes administration of medications/treatments, assessment of outcomes, and nursing treatment as indicated. The selected candidate must successfully complete the DHHS medication exam and have the ability to independently administer medications and treatments in a timely, accurate manner following the 6 rights. Selected candidates must also successfully become certified in CPR & NCVIF.

Salary Range: $61,177.00 - $91,767.00

Recruitment Range: $70,000.00 - $88,348.00

A Sign-on bonus of $10,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Ability to independently plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications.
  • Ability to communicate information in a concise and descriptive manner, verbally, written, or by demonstration.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations.

Must be able to successfully perform all functions applicable to nursing on the ADA checklist for all nursing positions at JIRDC.

This Position Is Exempt And Is EXEMPT From Certain Provisions Of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126) This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events. Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus:
