Job description

Job Description:
Summary:
The Manager, JCMC Lab Section is responsible for the overall leadership of his or her assigned department(s) which includes Core Laboratory Departments and Specialized Clinical Departments - Molecular, Flow Cytometry, Specialized Immunochemistry, Specialized Hematology, Specialized Coagulation, Specialized Procedures, and Clinical Trial Studies, not otherwise performed throughout the alliance. The Manager, JCMC Lab Section leadership responsibilities include but are not limited to the active participation in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives using the 10/90 Action Plan Tool; involvement in the budgeting processes; evaluation and recommendation of new testing and technology by staying abreast of current technology and service requirements; and recruitment and retention of professionals; in addition to the overall operations. To this end, this Manager develops as well as provides valuable input regarding Ballad Health Laboratory standardized operating procedures, advocates protocol standardization for the alliance; initiates research and development projects and serves as a resource for both clinical laboratory testing and laboratory information system performance. This Manager also has responsibility for assuring that all student rotations throughout the department(s) are productive with the appropriate team members' engagement through instruction and training.
The Manager, JCMC Lab Section is responsible for assuring the departments' compliance with the multiple regulatory agencies' standards and guidelines (State of Tennessee, State of New York, College of American Pathologists, Joint Commission, and CLIA '88) and the satisfactorily performance of CAP as well as State of New York proficiency survey testing. This Manager meets frequently with Clinical Trial Studies Auditors (national and international) throughout the year to demonstrate the departments' compliance and ensure the eligibility of Johnson City Medical Center as a laboratory service provider. The Manager, JCMC Lab Section is active with identifying and establishing specific operational and performance improvement goals and objectives for his or her assigned departments, reviewing monitored data, and takes the appropriate action after the review of performance improvement outcomes.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or the successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) - CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications:
Certification by the ASCP, AMT, AABB or other organization deemed comparable; or MT (HEW) certification through a Health Education and Welfare Academic and Sciences Program.
This position if working in Tennessee is required to possess State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Supervisor license.
Johnson City Medical Center Technicians performing Clinical Trial testing must meet the State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5, duties and qualification of clinical laboratory technical personnel.
