Overview:
The Summer Camp Assistant Counselor will work alongside the summer camp team to uphold the high standards of the JCCโ€™s Summer Camp Program. This role focuses on supporting the lead counselors in delivering engaging activities, ensuring the well-being of all campers, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. The Assistant Counselor will also help build strong relationships with families and contribute to the overall success of the camp experience.


General Responsibilities:

  • Assist lead counselors in creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where all children feel valued and secure.
  • Help implement and maintain the campโ€™s established standards and activities as outlined by the JCC and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Policy Adherence: Follow guidelines from the Summer Camp Program Handbook, including:
    • Compliance with DHS regulations
    • Effective communication with families
    • Maintenance of facility and equipment
    • Accurate record-keeping
    • Curriculum support and activity facilitation
    • Health and safety procedures
    • Collaborative teamwork
  • Meeting Attendance: Participate in regular meetings with the summer camp team and JCC to support camp objectives.
  • Additional Duties: Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Summer Camp Director or lead counselors.

  • Cultural Understanding: Demonstrate openness and respect for Jewish religion and traditions.
  • Active Participation: Engage in all relevant meetings and events that support the campโ€™s mission and responsibilities.
  • Advocacy: Promote the JCCโ€™s mission, programs, events, and charitable purposes to campers and their families.
  • Alignment: Understand and reflect the JCCโ€™s mission, vision statements, and Core Values in interactions with campers, families, and staff.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting is preferred but not required.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, technology skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (families, staff, children and community members) and to foster a team environment.
  • Must clear full background checks and clearances โ€“ PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, National Sex Offender Registry, and FBI
  • Must pass health screening with a TB test.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to engage in physical activities, including outdoor play and participation in camp activities.
  • Duration: This is a seasonal position for the summer camp period.
