Overview:
The Summer Camp Assistant Counselor will work alongside the summer camp team to uphold the high standards of the JCC's Summer Camp Program. This role focuses on supporting the lead counselors in delivering engaging activities, ensuring the well-being of all campers, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. The Assistant Counselor will also help build strong relationships with families and contribute to the overall success of the camp experience.
General Responsibilities:
- Assist lead counselors inย creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where all children feelย valued and secure.
- Help implement and maintain theย camp's established standards and activities as outlined by the JCC andย relevant regulatory bodies.
- Policy Adherence: Follow guidelines from the Summerย Camp Program Handbook, including:
- Compliance with DHS regulations
- Effective communication with ย families
- Maintenance of facility and ย equipment
- Accurate record-keeping
- Curriculum support and activity ย facilitation
- Health and safety procedures
- Collaborative teamwork
- Meeting Attendance: Participate in regular meetingsย with the summer camp team and JCC to support camp objectives.
- Additional Duties: Assist with other tasks asย assigned by the Summer Camp Director or lead counselors.
Requirements

- Cultural Understanding: Demonstrate openness and respect for Jewish religion and traditions.
- Active Participation: Engage in all relevant meetings ย and events that support the camp's mission and responsibilities.
- Advocacy: Promote the JCC's mission, programs, events, and charitable purposes to campers and their families.
- Alignment: Understand and reflect the JCC'sย mission, vision statements, and Core Values in interactions with campers, ย ย ย ย ย families, and staff.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience working withย children or in a camp setting is preferred but not required.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, ย technology skills.
- Ability to work well with others (families, staff, ย children and community members) and to foster a team environment.ย
- Must clear full background checks and ย clearances - PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, National Sex Offender Registry, ย and FBI ย
- Must pass health screening with a TB test.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 poundsย
Additional Information:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to engage in physical activities, including outdoor play and participation in camp activities.
- Duration: This is a seasonal position forย ย the summer camp period.
