Job description

James Administrative Fellow

The Administrative Fellowship at The James Cancer Center is a one-year program, that provides on-the-job training in the skills and responsibilities required of a cancer center administrator in a major academic health system. Reporting directly to the Associate Executive Director (AED) of The James Cancer Center, and collaboratively to the Senior Leadership Team, the Administrative Fellow assumes increasing levels of responsibility by working with administrators and staff at all levels of the organization.

The initial phase of the Fellowship program consists of rotations throughout the cancer hospital and outpatient centers designed to educate and orient the Fellow to the functions and structure of the organization. The Fellow will rotate with each member of the leadership team. The Fellow will have the chance to meet with department managers, and key faculty; to participate in committee meetings and councils; to shadow leaders at the highest level of the organization; and to work on projects and tasks. Each rotation provides a link between a department's role/function and relationship to other departments. The rotation experience allows the Fellow to experience and observe different managerial styles and develop a better understanding of the issues, challenges, and opportunities cancer hospitals face today.

After rotations, the Fellow is encouraged to use their remaining appointment to focus on projects and management experience based on the priorities of The James Cancer Center and the interests and growth opportunities for the Fellow. Projects may include, but are not limited to:

These responsibilities and duties require the use of discretion, strict confidentiality in the handling of sensitive information, independent judgment, responsibility, and flexibility.
