Job description

NATURE OF WORK

Appointed by the Sheriff and under the direct supervision of the Jail Operation Supervisors and the Jail Superintendent. This position performs tasks both routine and semi-routine involving the operation of the Control Room in the Tazewell County Justice Center.

This is a 24 hour, 7 day per week operation that requires coverage on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift, along with weekends and holidays.

This is a position of trust and responsibility. This position is directly responsible for monitoring officer safety and the security of the facility.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires a thorough understanding of the security electronic system to monitor the security, movement of personnel and detainees, access in, out, and within the Tazewell County Justice Center.

Operators must be alert at all times and maintain video surveillance of the security monitors for any breach of security inside and outside of the Tazewell County Justice Center.

Must communicate any suspicious behavior to the Jail Clerks, Correctional Officers, and Jail Operations Supervisors.

Monitor jail radio traffic along with other appropriate radio traffic from outside agencies.

Communicate with TC3 dispatch.

Monitor security alarms for the Tazewell Building, McKenzie Building, Probation, and Courthouse.

Understanding of the electronic water control system and fire annunciation panel of the Tazewell County Justice Center.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Control Room Operators' work location is limited to the Central Control Room at the Tazewell County Justice Center.

Operators must be able to work productively with frequent interruptions and maintain a high level of accuracy and competency, sometimes in emergency situations.
