Weekend Dog Walker

Outward Bound Hounds

Gaithersburg, MD โ€ข On-site

$18 - $22/hr

Part-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

Joining Outward Bound Hounds means becoming part of a warm, tight-knit team that treats both people and pets like family, with clear communication and support from Regina and the coordinators whenever you need it. Weekend walking pays a solid hourly rate for flexible, active work that fits around a weekday job or school schedule, letting you earn without being tied to a desk. Because OBH promotes from within, walkers who show reliability and initiative can grow into Shift Lead or coordinator roles over time rather than staying stuck in an entry-level gig. Altogether, it's a role where you get outdoor time with dogs, dependable pay, and a real path forward, not just a one-off job.

On a typical weekend day, you'll receive your walk assignments through Time To Pet and head out to client homes across Gaithersburg, Kentlands/Lakelands, Potomac, and the surrounding areas. Each visit involves safely leashing and walking the dog for the scheduled time, following any specific care notes (feeding, meds, favorite routes, quirks), and keeping an eye out for safety issues like weather or reactive behavior. After each walk, you'll log a quick visit update through the app so clients know their pup is happy and cared for. Between visits, you'll drive to your next stop, so a reliable vehicle and some route-planning are part of the rhythm of the day. Occasionally you may also handle other pet-related check-ins, like refreshing water or handling mail, depending on the client's specific requests.

Every reliable, well-executed walk directly supports OBH's core KPIs of client retention and 5-star review generation, since consistent, high-quality care is what turns first-time bookings into recurring MWF clients. By dependably covering weekend routes, this role also protects owner capacity, reducing the "owner-as-overflow-valve" strain that spikes during high-demand periods and keeping OBH able to say yes to new leads instead of turning them away.

Outward Bound Hounds is a Montgomery County-based dog walking and pet sitting company that's been trusted by local families since 2017. Our mission is to give pet owners peace of mind by providing safe, attentive, and reliable care so they can go about their day knowing their dog is in good hands. We treat every dog as if it were our own, building real relationships with clients rather than just checking a box, which is why so many of our customers become long-term, recurring clients. At our core, we value dependability, communication, and genuine love for animals over speed or volume.

Completing scheduled weekend walks on time -- directly drives client satisfaction and retention, OBH's core growth lever since churn is almost entirely involuntary (pet loss, relocation) rather than dissatisfaction, meaning consistent service keeps clients longer.

Logging visit updates after each walk -- builds the client trust and communication that generates 5-star reviews, which feed OBH's lead pipeline.

Following client-specific care instructions accurately -- reduces safety incidents and complaints, protecting OBH's reputation and reducing owner time spent on damage control.

Covering weekend routes reliably week to week -- relieves pressure on Regina as the operational "overflow valve," freeing owner hours for lead generation and business growth instead of last-minute walk coverage.

What's in it for you:

This is a part-time, hourly position paying $18-$22/hour, based on experience. You'll enjoy flexible weekly scheduling that works around school, a weekday job, or other commitments, plus holiday pay for visits worked on designated holidays and a 401(k) with company matching. While this role doesn't include PTO, it offers real earning potential for active, outdoor work with a supportive team, and a track record of promoting reliable walkers into Shift Lead and coordinator roles as the business grows.

At Outward Bound Hounds, our team operates on a few core beliefs: dependability comes first, because clients trust us with their pets' safety and routine, so showing up on time and following through matters more than anything else. We believe in clear, proactive communication, whether that's a daily team update or a quick note to a client after a visit, so nothing falls through the cracks. Every dog is treated with the same care and attention we'd want for our own pets, never rushed and never treated as just a task on a list. Finally, we believe in growing our own team from within, giving reliable, hardworking walkers a real path toward leadership rather than treating the role as a dead end.
