IT Support Analyst 

Locations: Birmingham, Alabama or Atlanta, Georgia 

Onsite 4 days a week.

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

To provide dedicated technical and business process support for the Technology Organization (TO) systems at Southern Power (SPC) plants as well as Enterprise fleet wide projects when necessary.

Qualification Requirements

This is a 7x24x365 support organization and participation in an on-call rotation as well as performing some after-hours work is required.

Minimum Qualifications

- Associate degree in Computer Science or related technical field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience OR 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree (IT Industry certifications also considered).

- Strong professional skills including organizational, communication, coordination, and analytical abilities.

- Communicate technical concepts into language customers easily understand.

- Demonstrate ability to significantly contribute to highly integrated project / operational teams.

- Exemplary safety record, experience with industrial settings and extensive travel.

- Ability to consistently demonstrate teamwork.

Technical

Experience working in a large technology organization is required.  Understanding of its internal processes and technical infrastructure integration is required (primarily data / telecom / cybersecurity / Generation applications / end user environment / etc.).

- Understanding of plant OT (Operational Technology) systems and their interaction with IT systems considered advantageous. Data Networking / Telecommunications - profound understanding of supporting remote sites data network / telecommunications / firewalls / routers / switches / BDAs / etc and associated communication methods (AVPN, LTE, BGP, IP stack, etc.).

- Enhanced knowledge of Cybersecurity considered advantageous. - Electric Plant Support Experience - understanding of electric plant operations, particularly related to technologies used at the plant (Emergency Notification, Physical Security, Operator Rounds, CEMS, Historian, LOTO, Maximo, etc.).

- Comprehensive knowledge of physical security systems (CCure / Avigilon) considered advantageous. - Proficient use of Microsoft Office products, particularly O365 environment (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Visio.

Industry -

-- Proficient knowledge of Southern Company, particularly related to Southern Power (SPC) Plant Operations and their interaction with their Remote Operations Center (ROC).

- Fundamental understanding of North American electrical transmission infrastructures and how they interact with SPC plants.

- Fundamental understanding of North American telecommunications infrastructures.

- Proficient knowledge of the FERC Separation Protocol and the supporting TO infrastructure / processes.

Essential Functions

- Operational Support - ensure the resiliency, effectiveness, and security of SPC plant IT infrastructures is designed, implemented, maintained and continuously improved.

- Project Support - demonstrate active and meaningful contributions to SPC Plant / ROC Integration Projects.

Physical Demands

- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

- Must be able to climb ladders safely to install equipment.

- Must be able to handle extreme weather conditions.

- Travel up to 50%

Work Environment

*This position is split between "office setting" and "plant setting".  Four days in office if not travelling.
