Job Description:

AltaLink’s Security & Information Services (S&IS) Department is currently looking for Senior IS Project Managers who will be responsible for effectively delivering a large, complex program made up of several S&IS projects. The position is full time based out of the Calgary office, and will report to the Director, S&IS Capital Project Delivery or their delegate.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage simultaneous IT projects from $5M and higher from initiation to closing.
  • Manage one or more programs of projects, ensuring alignment of scope, schedule and budget and human resources within the program.
  • Manage overall cost, quality, schedule, scope, human resources and change management to meet the project objectives.
  • Manage and communicate with project team members, consultants, project sponsors and managers on project scope, objectives, accountabilities and commitments.
  • Report project status, finances, schedule and risks to all sponsors, stakeholders and management.
  • Manage the development of project documentation requirements in accordance with IT Project Management Framework based on PMI, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), audit and Bill 198 requirements.
  • Provide assistance to junior project managers to address project and business problems.
  • Provide mentoring to junior project managers to build skills and knowledge.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects and changing priorities on a daily basis.
  • Assign work to staff, provide feedback and input on performance reviews.
  • Development of organizational change management strategies for IT and for individual projects.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and other stakeholders as well as other IT projects.
  • Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 + years of experience in several areas of IT operations with a focus on databases, programming, web development and/or integration.
  • Minimum of 15 + years of proven project management experience managing complex and cross-functional projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent certification or very significant project management experience in lieu.
  • Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving and mentoring skills.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills including presentations, teaching and coaching.
  • Ability to express complex project concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
  • Extensive knowledge of Project Management best practices (PMI).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Change Management best practices.
  • Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members, stakeholders and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with all levels of the organization through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes.
  • IT methodology and/or process implementation background.
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Project, MS Project Server and MS Portfolio Server.
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
  • SAP experience would be an asset.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
