Job description

Overview:

Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) is seeking a hands-on Junior Network Engineer to support the day-to-day operation of our corporate network across multiple Raleigh area sites and studios. Working on-site and under the direction of the Senior Network Engineer, you will help keep the wired, wireless, and low-voltage infrastructure that supports our broadcast, sports, and business operations running reliably. This is a hands-on, in-person role suited to someone with a solid networking foundation who wants to grow their skills in a fast-paced live media environment. You will spend time in offices, studios, data centers, and wiring closets as part of a small team where your work has direct, visible impact.

This position is based on-site at our Western Blvd headquarters in Raleigh, NC. Candidates must live in the Triangle area or be willing to relocate at their own expense.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Provide on-site support for network infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, switches, wireless, and structured cabling across CBC sites.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Fortinet firewalls and various switches and access points (e.g., Ruckus, Cisco, Ubiquiti, Meraki)
  • Perform daily monitoring and maintenance of network systems using tools such as InterMapper and respond to alerts.
  • Assist with the management of internet and point-to-point circuits across multiple divisions.
  • Assist with securing networks and perimeters through proper configuration, hardening, and patching.
  • Support end user connectivity, including wired and wireless access and FortiClient VPN.
  • Perform structured cabling work, including running, terminating, testing, and labeling copper and fiber in closets and data centers.
  • Assist with moves, adds, and changes for network equipment during site projects and buildouts.
  • Assist with server and virtualization support across divisions as needed.
  • Respond to and resolve network related tickets and serve as escalation support for the service desk.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, configuration documentation, and support procedures.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call scheduled rotation, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel as needed between CBC sites across the Triangle.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both technical and non-technical.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must reside in daily commuting distance to the Raleigh area. This is a local, on-site position.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with IP based networking technologies and industry standards.
  • Completed associate degree or higher, preferably in a technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Network+ or CCNA certification, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Working knowledge of switching, routing, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with internet circuits, WAN topologies, and basic perimeter security concepts.
  • Comfortable performing physical work such as running cable, racking equipment, and working in wiring closets and data centers.
  • Consistent ability to travel between CBC sites and offices.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on Fortinet experience or Fortinet (NSE) certifications.
  • Cisco or Meraki experience.
  • Experience working in radio, television, or broadcasting. RF experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on skills in wireless networking and wireless security.
  • Experience with Windows or Linux servers and virtualization.
  • Competency in Voice over IP (VoIP) technology and SIP.
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage wiring, cabling installation and repair, and cellular.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as InterMapper.
  • Related security certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
