We are currently seeking a highly skilled and autonomous Low-Voltage Security Technician for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with our client.
In this dynamic, field-based role, you will serve as the technical expert and face of the company, responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and programming complex security and surveillance networks. Your day-to-day will involve expert-level troubleshooting, system configuration, and seamless integration of IP CCTV networks, Video Management Systems (VMS), and advanced access control solutions.
The ideal candidate is a dedicated problem-solver with a strong background in low-voltage electrical systems, basic IT/networking principles, and a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). If you thrive on independent troubleshooting, hardware integration, and delivering top-tier customer service, this contract-to-hire position offers an excellent pathway to long-term career growth.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • System Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Perform expert-level troubleshooting of complex low-voltage systems. Rapidly identify and resolve ground faults, open circuits, and communication errors across IP CCTV networks, fire alarm panels, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
  • CCTV & Video Management: Install, aim, and focus IP/analog cameras (including PTZ). Configure NVRs/DVRs, optimize video storage, adjust frame rates, and seamlessly integrate Video Management Systems (VMS) like Milestone, ExacqVision, or Genetec.
  • Access Control Integration: Wire and install electronic door hardware, magnetic locks, door strikes, and card readers. Configure access control panels and integrate them with overarching building security software.
  • System Restoration & Configuration: Repair, replace, and configure defective devices. Terminate wires, test circuits, and ensure systems are functioning at 100% capacity.
  • Network Integration: Assign IP addresses, configure network settings, and ensure seamless communication between hardware devices and head-end software.
  • Client Consultation: Serve as the face of the company in the field. Provide honest, highly technical solutions to client problems while maintaining a professional appearance and building customer trust.
  • Documentation: Complete required service tickets, site logs, and material usage reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate technical information, system statuses, and project updates with clients, project managers, and customer service staff.

SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of low-voltage circuits, relays, and multi-meter usage. Highly proficient in configuring IP-based security devices and troubleshooting complex system integrations.
  • Code & Compliance Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, National Electrical Code (NEC), and local building/fire codes as they relate to low-voltage installations.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to easily read, interpret, and work from blueprints, riser diagrams, and complex technical schematics.
  • Autonomy & Problem Solving: Strong analytical abilities and a sense of urgency. Must be able to independently assess a broken system, identify the fault, and execute the repair without hand-holding.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: A dedicated team player capable of coordinating with installation teams, sales staff, and IT departments to complete complex projects.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong customer service and public relations skills; excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Organization: Highly accurate, detail-oriented, and capable of managing your own daily service schedule efficiently.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience: 4+ years of direct, hands-on experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting CCTV, Access Control, Fire Alarms, and other Security systems.
  • Low Voltage & Networking: Advanced knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and basic IT/networking principles (IP configurations, routers, switches).
  • Tools: Mastery of the proper use of assorted hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
