Job Summary:
Alaska SeaLife Center is seeking an IT Manager responsible for analyzing technological needs and implementing solutions, training staff, and providing network, software, and end user computer support. The role involves supervising IT personnel, managing IT resources, and ensuring compliance with IT policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Supervises IT Division personnel, including assigning work, setting schedules and performance standards, conducting evaluations, and recommending personnel actions to the EVP.
• Assesses technology needs, implements solutions, and recommends system enhancements.
• Develops strategic plans to support operational growth.
• Ensures IT staff are properly trained and equipped; coordinates training as needed.
• Provides computer training to ASLC employees and visiting researchers.
• Assists in developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with IT policies and procedures.
• Evaluates, purchases, and manages hardware and software resources, vendor contracts, and system compatibility.
• Oversees IT equipment, supplies, expenditures, and budget compliance.
• Assists with preparation and management of the annual IT budget.
• Provides leadership for network and systems security, including user access and account maintenance.
• Maintains software licenses, hardware inventory, virus protection, backups, email, disk space, and network performance.
• Coordinates with consultants to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Configures, troubleshoots, and supports desktop/laptop computers, printers, phone systems, and data processing equipment.
• Provides technical support for desktop software, network systems, and cloud-based applications, including security and system enhancements.
• Maintains procedures for tracking and resolving user support requests in a timely manner.
• Provides onsite, remote, and emergency after-hours support for end users.
• Oversees maintenance of public websites and internal intranet systems.
• Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, goodwill, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
• Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• B.S. in Computer Science and minimum of 5 years network support experience or High School diploma or GED and, industry certifications such as A+ or Network+ and minimum of five years’ experience with PC hardware and software.
• Must have good troubleshooting and repair skills, be able to provide technical support and hardware/software support to LAN/WAN users.
• Must have experience in support of LAN hardware and software and analog to digital conversion, extensive working knowledge of desktop/laptop PC installation, configuration, and problem resolution.
• Must be proficient in the configuration of desktop and laptops including: Current Windows O/S, MS Networking, Google Apps, MS Office, virus protection, network administration, Windows Server, DNS, TCP/IP, and DHCP.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as part of a team, work with outside networking consultants, and manage time under pressure.
• Ability to speak and write effectively be comfortable meeting new people and interfacing with diverse interests.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
Preferred:
• One workstation level certification from Microsoft
• Website maintenance experience
• Microsoft Certified Professional certification
