What is an IT inventory analyst?

IT Inventory Analysts are professionals responsible for managing and tracking an organization's information technology assets, such as hardware, software, and related equipment. They ensure that IT inventory is accurately recorded, maintained, and optimized for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Their duties often include conducting regular audits, updating inventory databases, forecasting future inventory needs, and coordinating with other departments to support IT operations. By maintaining precise inventory records, IT Inventory Analysts help organizations minimize losses, comply with regulations, and make informed purchasing decisions.

How does an IT inventory analyst typically collaborate with other departments to maintain accurate asset records?

An IT Inventory Analyst works closely with departments such as IT support, procurement, and finance to ensure asset records are up-to-date and accurate. This collaboration often involves regular communication to track new equipment acquisitions, retirements, and reallocations. Analysts may coordinate periodic audits, provide reports on asset status, and resolve discrepancies by working directly with department contacts. Building strong relationships with these teams helps streamline inventory management and supports compliance with organizational policies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT inventory analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IT Inventory Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in inventory management, typically supported by a degree in information technology, business, or a related field. Familiarity with asset management software, databases, and tools like Microsoft Excel or ServiceNow is commonly required, and certifications such as ITIL can be advantageous. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate tracking of IT assets, efficient resource utilization, and seamless coordination across departments.

Job description

The Inventory Analyst keeps our stock accurate, priced right, and moving across both new and used inventory. We buy, sell, and trade thousands of clubs a month, and the value of that inventory shifts constantly with season, model year, and demand. This role sits at the intersection of data and golf equipment - you'll spend as much time in spreadsheets as you do understanding the product itself.
Come work with us, not for us!
2nd Swing is a one of a kind, forward thinking, customer-centric golf retail company. Our employees are highly-valued, while working hard in a positive and supportive culture. At 2nd Swing you will find:
  • Vast Exposure to the Golf Industry
  • A Commitment to Total Well-Being
  • Opportunities to Discover Your Fit and Make an Impact
  • A Collaborative and Flexible Environment

Responsibilities:
  • Track inventory levels, aging, and sell-through across both new and used product categories
  • Monitor pricing against market comps across new and used product to keep our positioning competitive
  • Use sell-through, aging, and margin data to drive pricing decisions - identify what's moving too slowly, what needs to accelerate, and where there's room to hold price
  • Execute those changes end to end: set markdowns, promotions, and transfers, then measure the impact and adjust
  • Analyze trade-in and buy-side data to help set acquisition values by brand, model, and condition grade
  • Help plan future orders using historical sales data on comparable models and prior-season performance
  • Advise buyers on order quantity, mix, and timing so we buy into the right product at the right depth
  • Build and maintain reporting on turnover, margin, shrink, and stock accuracy
  • Partner with store and e-commerce teams to balance inventory across locations and channels
  • Flag trends - new model releases, seasonal swings, category softness

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years in inventory analysis, merchandising, retail operations, or a similar analytical role
  • Experience at a company that operates both physical retail stores and an e-commerce platform
  • Hands-on experience analyzing inventory across both channels, including how stock performs differently in-store versus online
  • Golf industry knowledge: familiarity with brands, model cycles, and equipment condition standards
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, large data sets); experience with an ERP or inventory management system
  • Comfort working with imperfect data and drawing practical conclusions from it
  • Ability to move fast and stay nimble - the business moves quickly and priorities can shift week to week
  • Detail orientation and follow-through

Full-Time Benefits:
  • Employee Programs
  • Paid Time Off and Holidays
  • 401k with eligible company match
  • Health Insurance
  • HSA/FSA options
  • Discounted Merchandise
  • Continued Training and Development
  • Work Life Balance

Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000 based on previous experience.
