What is an IT Integration Architect?

IT Integration Architects are professionals who design and implement solutions to ensure that different software systems, applications, and technologies within an organization can work together seamlessly. They analyze business requirements, select appropriate integration tools, and create architectures that connect disparate systems and data sources. Their work is crucial for optimizing business processes, improving data flow, and enabling digital transformation. IT Integration Architects often collaborate with developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure integration solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IT Integration Architect?

To thrive as an IT Integration Architect, you need a strong background in system architecture, application integration, and understanding of enterprise IT environments, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with integration platforms (like MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or IBM Integration Bus), APIs, middleware, and certifications such as TOGAF or specific vendor credentials are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills help bridge business needs and technical solutions. These skills are vital to ensure seamless data flow, system interoperability, and successful project delivery across complex organizational IT landscapes.

How does an IT Integration Architect typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during large-scale integration projects?

Job description

Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is based on-site and requires four days per week in the Brea office to support collaboration and business needs.
Envista is looking for an experienced and visionary Director of IT Integration to lead and evolve the strategic development, governance, and operation of Envista's IT integration platforms. This role will be accountable for unifying and optimizing our enterprise integration landscape across MuleSoft, SAP PI/PO, and Oracle SOA among others to ensure seamless data and process connectivity across all IT systems.
The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise, capable of building out a robust MuleSoft integration practice (API-led connectivity) and establishing a strong framework and governance model for all integration activities. In this high-impact role, you will drive integration strategy, oversee a team of internal and outsourced integration specialists, and partner cross-functionally to deliver scalable solutions that enable business growth and digital transformation.
Envista's IT environment includes multiple integration technologies due to diverse business needs and legacy systems. This role provides a unique opportunity to consolidate integration approaches, implement best-in-class standards, and build a Center of Excellence that propels our integration capabilities to the next level.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Define and execute a comprehensive integration strategy and roadmap aligned with business objectives, including establishing enterprise-wide integration standards, governance policies, and best practices.
  • Drive the expansion and maturity of Envista's MuleSoft integration platform by developing a governance model and reusable frameworks to maximize reuse of APIs and integration assets.
  • Oversee all integration platforms (MuleSoft, SAP PI/PO, Oracle SOA), ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of integration solutions across the organization.
  • Prioritize and manage the portfolio of integration projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and efficient delivery of integration solutions that add business value.
  • Lead integration architecture and design efforts ensuring integration solutions are well-architected (utilizing APIs, middleware, ETL, event-driven frameworks) and adhere to compliance and security requirements.
  • Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing integration team comprising internal employees and outsourced resources; provide clear direction, set objectives, and foster a collaborative, innovative culture.
  • Collaborate closely with various IT and business stakeholders (ERP, CRM, Digital, Infrastructure, Security, etc.) to identify integration needs, design solutions, and drive cross-functional initiatives from conception through implementation.
  • Engage with external vendors and partners (e.g., integration consultants, MSPs) to augment capabilities, ensure quality delivery, and stay current on emerging integration technologies and best practices.
  • Monitor and continuously improve integration processes and technologies by introducing industry best practices (e.g., API-led connectivity, CI/CD for integrations, automated monitoring) to increase reliability and efficiency.
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert and visionary for enterprise integration, guiding both day-to-day operations and long-term enhancements to support Envista's digital business strategies.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field; Master's degree a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT integration, middleware, or enterprise architecture roles, including 5+ years in leadership positions managing integration teams or large-scale integration programs.
  • Hands-on expertise with modern integration platforms and tools (MuleSoft strongly preferred), plus knowledge of legacy or comparable systems such as SAP PI/PO, Oracle SOA, etc.
  • Proven ability to develop and govern integration architecture and frameworks (REST/SOAP APIs, ETL processes, message queues, event streaming/EDI) at an enterprise level, with emphasis on scalability, reuse, and security.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams, including managing outsourced/offshore resources; excellent mentoring and people development skills.
  • Strong project and portfolio management skills with the ability to prioritize initiatives, manage budgets, and drive timely delivery in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, technical teams, and business users to drive consensus and results
  • Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach: capable of big-picture thinking and setting vision, while also comfortable diving into technical details when necessary.
  • Experience establishing integration governance (Center of Excellence, standards, guidelines) and familiarity with ITSM/SDLC best practices (Agile methodologies, ITIL processes) for managing integration platforms.
  • Knowledge of data security, compliance (e.g., SOX, GDPR), and risk management as it relates to systems integration and data flows across applications.
