Our easy-to-implement platform consolidates government services and payments into one connected experience and enables our clients to drive resident trust, collect revenue quickly, and redeploy their staff to more important challenges. This innovative approach to government service delivery has garnered significant recognition in both the public and private sectors, including our inclusion in the GovTech 100 every year since 2017. PayIt solutions cover services including hunting and fishing licensing, DMV, courts, property tax, utilities, tolling, and more.

Our culture welcomes people who exhibit what we call "PayIt DNA": High integrity, drive, grit, high aptitude, and team orientation. We are collaborative and passionate about the work we do to improve the lives of our government clients and the end users they serve. We have ambitious scaling goals, and we look for team members who are ready to roll up their sleeves, solve problems, and find new opportunities to win with our clients. And we have a lot of fun together.

About This Role:

PayIt's Information Technology Team is the group primarily responsible for building, integrating, and maintaining the systems and applications that drive PayIt's culture of collaboration and innovation. The IT Engineer will be the face of, and initial point of contact for, the IT Team. This individual is expected to be intelligent, bright, creative, and able to excel in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Be Doing

The IT Engineer will work across teams and within a team, and be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide infrastructure support for all systems within PayIt's offices, including network equipment, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Analyze system and application requirements and provide recommended technical solutions that are efficient, scalable, maintainable, and accurately meet the needs of the business.
  • Contribute to the development of the technical roadmap by recognizing and putting forth solutions to systemic problems.
  • Support the security and compliance mission of the company with the goal of ensuring the overall security of the company, as well as company-wide compliance to a variety of internal policies and standards, and external regulatory standards, including PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, and SSAE-18 SOC 2.
  • Build AI-driven workflows and automations to create efficiencies, and make our work easier and quicker.
Document

Maintenance
  • Participate in resolving challenging and demanding problems within the corporate network.
  • Manage all tactical and strategic projects within PayIt's corporate network with the goal of maintaining the health, security, and operational efficiencies of PayIt's employees and offices.
  • Ensure SLA metrics, specifically around IT support controls, are met.
Customer Service
  • Assist with customer inquiries and resolution of problems.
  • Resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Represent the IT Team in staff meetings with other teams to communicate initiatives and provide status updates on projects.
Innovation
  • Research and explore new approaches and new technologies and alternative ways to better accomplish functional requests.
  • Work closely with a variety of business teams across the organization to coordinate and plan initiatives to support the software and hardware needs of the entire company.
  • Act as a sounding board and filter for the application of new technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by never being satisfied with "the way things are."
What You'll Need to be Successful
  • Two or more years of experience in a junior or similar role.
  • Basic knowledge of one scripting language, e.g. Python.
  • Desire to work onsite in downtown Kansas City on a regular cadence (roughly one day a week, or more when the work demands it). This isn't a face-time policy. Our network and hardware live here, and the team does its best problem-solving together. We're hiring someone who wants to be where the work happens.
  • Intermediate knowledge of, and demonstrable experience with, AI applications, including at least one of the following: Cursor, ChatGPT/Codex, Claude, or Gemini.

  • The ability to multitask and work independently.
  • The flexibility to occasionally work weekend and evening assignments, as well as availability during off-hours for participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities.
  • Committed to pursuing ongoing educational and training opportunities related to your interests.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively within a team.

  • Advanced AI development and automation knowledge with multiple commercial tools, including Cursor, ChatGPT/Codex, Claude, or Gemini.
  • Robust experience with Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems.
