Job description

Metis Technology Solutions, Inc. is seeking a skilled Information Engineer to join our team, working within the domains of Embedded Systems (ES) Computer Science, Computer Systems Design (CSD), or Computer Systems Software (CSS) under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) framework. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining complex information systems, with a particular emphasis on either real-time, safety-critical, safety-of-flight systems (ES) or database-driven administrative and workflow systems (CSD/CSS). The Information Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, secure, and efficient data systems that support organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • ES Domain (Computer Science): Design and develop real-time, safety-critical systems involving multiple sensor and communication systems to ensure safety-of-flight requirements are met.
  • CSD/CSS Domain (Software Engineering): Develop and maintain database-driven workflow or administrative systems, focusing on data integration, storage, and accessibility.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines to collect, process, and store information from diverse sources.
  • Implement and maintain high-performance, secure, and scalable database systems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to integrate data solutions into applications and workflows.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through validation, monitoring, and error-handling processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data systems, infrastructure, or real-time system performance.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes, and workflows.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovations to enhance system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, data privacy laws, and organizational security policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related scientific field (Masterโ€™s degree preferred). For Human Factors Analysts, a degree in Psychology or a specialized Human Factors field is acceptable.
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Knowledge of real-time systems, sensor integration, or communication systems for ES domain roles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
  • Understanding of FAA regulations, data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and security best practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with real-time, safety-critical systems or safety-of-flight applications (ES domain).
  • Knowledge of database-driven workflow or administrative systems (CSD/CSS domain).
  • Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer).
