Job description

KCCI Television, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a strategic and experienced IT Manager to lead our station's technology infrastructure and operations. This leadership role is focused on high-level infrastructure management, strategic planning, and team development. You will oversee the station's critical IT systems, ensuring the reliability and security required for a 24/7 broadcast environment.  In this role, you will move beyond day-to-day helpdesk tasks to focus on the "big picture" of enterprise technology. You will mentor and coach the Broadcast IT Specialist, who handles Level 1 support and desktop deployment, while you manage complex systems and coordinate with corporate IT teams for specialized services. This is a unique opportunity to blend enterprise IT management with the fast-paced, dynamic world of broadcast media.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching to the Broadcast IT Specialist, fostering their professional growth and technical development.

  • Manage the IT department's workflow, ensuring efficient handling of user requests while prioritizing critical infrastructure projects.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between station engineering, news operations, and corporate IT leadership.

Infrastructure & Systems Management:

  • Manage and maintain hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and enterprise virtualization platforms to ensure high availability for mission-critical applications.

  • Oversee network topology, including switching, connectivity, segmentation, VLAN configuration, and IP management.

  • Administer enterprise storage systems and backup solutions, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.

  • Manage Windows Server environments, including patch management and endpoint management strategies.

Security & Access Management:

  • Oversee station security compliance, including the deployment and monitoring of endpoint protection systems.

  • Manage directory services and identity access management, ensuring proper permissions and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) protocols are followed.

  • Maintain secure remote access solutions, including VPN configuration and support.

Broadcast & Production Systems:

  • Support specialized broadcast technology, including newsroom computer systems, media asset management, and production automation workflows.

  • Manage file transfer agents and workflows for high-volume media delivery.

  • Support streaming and OTT (Over-The-Top) delivery platforms and digital content distribution efforts.

IT Service Management & Coordination:

  • Utilize ITSM platforms to manage incidents and service requests, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.

  • Coordinate with corporate IT teams for Level 2/Level 3 support issues, VoIP administration, and video conferencing services (these are not directly administered by the IT Manager).

  • Oversee IT Asset Management (ITAM), including inventory tracking, lifecycle management, and replenishment planning.

Strategic Planning & Projects:

  • Lead IT capital planning and project management for station technology upgrades.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, policies, and software licensing requirements.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to integrate IT solutions into broadcast engineering workflows.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and military/industry experience.

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure management, including virtualization, networking, and server administration.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a focus on mentoring and developing technical staff.

  • Strong understanding of network architecture (TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, switching).

  • Experience with enterprise directory services and security protocols.

  • Excellent project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a broadcast television or media production environment.

  • Certifications in virtualization platforms, networking (e.g., Cisco), or Microsoft technologies.

  • Familiarity with broadcast-specific systems (Newsroom Computer Systems, Automation, etc.).
