Job Description

The Revenue Accounting Manager is an experienced, full-time, exempt salaried position with Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway (W&LE). This role is responsible for managing the railroad's interline revenue settlement processes, revenue rating activities, and related accounting functions. The position serves as the primary business lead for Interline Settlement System (ISS) operations and settlement functionality within the Wabtec RailConnect suite and Advanced Analytics platform.

The Revenue Accounting Manager ensures compliance with AAR accounting rules and industry settlement requirements, executes key SOX controls, supports internal and external audits, and partners with Commercial, IT, Railinc, and other stakeholders to support accurate revenue processing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Manage daily interline settlement activities, including ISS, RCH, and related Railinc processes.
  • Review and resolve interline settlement exceptions, disputes, suspense items, and related billing issues.
  • Maintain compliance with AAR Railway Accounting Rules, ISS requirements, and interline settlement procedures.
  • Coordinate and support ISS/REN certification and recertification testing as required.
  • Maintain revenue rating information, routing data, mileage records, and settlement-related master files.
  • Serve as the business lead for settlement functionality within the Wabtec RailConnect suite (RMI/RMS/TMS) and Advanced Analytics.
  • Work with IT, Wabtec, Railinc, and other business partners to resolve system, rating, and settlement issues.
  • Develop and maintain reporting and analytics to support revenue accounting and settlement activities.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly SOX controls and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Monitor settlement variances and communicate potential revenue impacts to key stakeholders.
  • Administer fuel surcharge calculations and support demurrage and accessorial billing activities.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Full Time
  • Full-time (salary/overtime exempt).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; equivalent railroad accounting experience will be considered.
  • Five or more years of railroad accounting experience, including revenue accounting, rating, or interline settlement.
  • Knowledge of AAR Railway Accounting Rules and Railinc settlement systems, including ISS, REN, SSDX, and RCH.
  • Experience performing or supporting SOX controls in an accounting or finance environment.
  • Experience with railroad transportation, revenue, or accounting systems, including Wabtec RailConnect, AS400-based applications, or similar platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new systems, manage multiple priorities, and drive process improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience owning or supporting rail transportation management, revenue management, or settlement systems.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Analytics, PC*Miler, or similar reporting and mileage tools.
  • Experience working directly with Railinc settlement and data exchange processes.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, or process improvement initiatives.
