Job description

In School Suspension (ISS) Aide
Position Purpose:
Performs any combination of following instructional tasks the In-School Suspension Classroom by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  • Provides supervision for students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom.
  • Reviews in-school suspension policies, procedures, and student expectations with students daily.
  • Works with students to complete reflection on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student's assignment to ISS.
  • Monitors all ISS assignments, provides encouragement and feedback to students, monitors tests and computer work, and provides instructional assistance as appropriate.
  • Supervises students during location changes.
  • Contacts teachers for work requests as needed.
  • Supervises lunchtime in ISS room.
  • Refers behavior problems to the school administrator.
  • Maintains professionalism with regard to confidentiality, dress, communication, and behavior.
  • Performs related work as required or assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  2. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students and employees.
  4. Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  5. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Qualifications Profile:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working with children desirable.
