Job description

Position Title: Teacher Mentor: Edgenuity Online Platform [S.O.A.R CENTER] CORE/PE
Department: Peoria Flex Academy | Dropout Recovery Program
Supervisor: Principal
Term of Employment: 9 months plus extra days
Salary Classification: Teacher Salary Schedule
As a Mentor Teacher, you will deliver exceptional academic support through our digital learning model that provides student-centered monitoring, coaching, mentoring, and teaching. Your teaching experience in your specific subject area, along with your proficiency in technology will support your success in this dynamic role. As a Mentor Teacher you are responsible for assisting students academically with concept comprehension synchronously and/or asynchronously via live chat, phone, email, and virtual conferencing technology. You will be grading student assignments and communicating with parents, school administration and school counselors to ensure student success. 
Key Responsibilities:






  • Provide academic guidance and support for students enrolled in online courses.
  • Orient students to their coursework, clearly communicating virtual course participation requirements and enforcing academic integrity guidelines.
  • Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment by choosing and implementing appropriate learning strategies.
  • Prepare for and facilitate synchronous instructional sessions delivered in an online learning platform as necessary.
  • Conduct 1 to1 tutoring sessions through web conferencing and virtual white board technologies.
  • Successfully implement accommodations and modifications as required by individual education plans.
  • Successfully complete required department onboarding training.
  • Contribute professional expertise to curriculum support and professional learning communities.
  • Communicate with parents, school administrators, and colleagues as needed.
  • Communicate with students, parents and administrators outside typical school hours.
  • Maintain active educator licenses, clearances, and required credentials.
  • Respond to instructional leadership in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism in all interactions.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or additional certification(s) are preferred in the fields of Education
  • Experience in dropout prevention, and/or youth development
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with data management and student performance tracking systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills with ability to prioritize program issues 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with dropout recovery and alternative education programs
  • Experience working with at-risk youth or in non-traditional educational settings
  • Experience with online learning platforms


 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and pass a background check
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid government issued ID / driver's license
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Typically works in a school or community-based setting
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours WILL BE required for outreach activities or meetings
