Job description

We're seeking Lead Teacher Special Education to join the team for the 2026–2027 academic year! In this role, you'll support and guide high-risk and special needs students through academic instruction, social-emotional development, and enrichment activities in a low student-to-teacher ratio setting. Responsibilities:

  • Deliver academic instruction and mentor students in a supportive, flexible learning environment
  • Develop daily schedules and lesson plans tailored to individual student needs
  • Incorporate social-emotional learning, art, physical education, and independent study into the curriculum
  • Support students with IEPs and/or behavioral challenges using empathy, structure, and creativity
  • Collaborate with staff to promote student engagement and progress
  • Maintain accurate records and communication related to student performance and development

Requirements:

  • NYS Teaching Certification (or in progress), Non-NYS certifications
  • Experience working with high-risk and/or special needs students in K–12 settings
  • Ability to create and guide individualized lesson plans
  • Strong knowledge of core academic subjects and adaptive learning modalities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Creative, patient, and relationship-driven approach to teaching
  • Ability to work independently and think on your feet in dynamic situations
