Twelve-and-a-half miles of saltwater shoreline and five freshwater lakes make Anacortes, Washington, a paradise for water-lovers. This city hosts a myriad of recreational activities for all ages, interests, and skill levels. Anacortes is homeport for numerous sailing and power yacht charters. Here you can enjoy sailing, power boating, whale watching, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, golf, camping, sport fishing, bird watching, scuba diving, beachcombing, and much more. There are four full-service marinas and three public boat launches. Take the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes to the San Juan Islands, a haven for marine mammals and countless other species, including killer whales. Watch pods of Orca whales feed in the waters of Puget Sound, or visit Fidalgo Island, home to sea life ranging from sea stars and octopus to otters and seals. The public beaches and tidepools represent an exciting opportunity for curious children. This island is home to an underwater state park. Facility Description
Island Hospital is a 43-bed community hospital, a designated Level III trauma facility and a Level II stroke center. Cardiac care, cancer care, a birth center, pain clinic and hyperbaric wound care center are just a few of the services available for patients. Island Hospital employs more than 750 staff members and has five family care clinics, as well as six specialty clinics. Island Hospital is a public hospital district, (Skagit County Public Hospital District No. 2) comprising boundaries include Fidalgo, Cypress, Guemes and Sinclair islands. Five publicly elected Commissioners govern the hospital district to ensure best practices are fairly enforced, monitor facility upgrades and see to the enhancement of community services offered to residents of the district.
