Job description

As a part of the Orcas Island Primary Care Clinic team, you'll play a vital role in supporting our mission to care for those who care for others. You'll help create a positive and seamless experience for every team member - ensuring they feel valued, supported, and heard
  • Location: Anacortes, WA, Onsite
  • Schedule: 1 FTE / Days
  • Salary Range: $26.00 - $37.00 per hour

Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, our Medical Assistant's oversee the effective clinical operations of the clinic. The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and manages patient flow in the clinic, serves as a patient advocate between the clinic and outside entities, and is responsible for clinic safety and execution of proper protocols.
What you will be doing:
  • Rooms patients, collects medical data, documents for appropriate visit and assists with the physical exam.
  • Processes patient situations over the telephone to determine the appropriate medical attention.
  • Under the direction of Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician, administers vaccines and medications IV, PO, IM, SQ. Conducts EKG and Spirometry testing.
  • Under the direction of Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician, administers various tests in CLIA-waived lab, including glucose tests, OGTT, INR, federal and non-federal drug screens, pregnancy tests, TB tests, among others.
  • Facilitates and manages clinic flow.
  • Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages.
  • Facilitates the exchange and coordination of information regarding the patient process.
  • Consistently utilizes information systems in a confidential and accurate manner.
  • Acts as a patient advocate through effective communication with patients, family and other staff regarding the patient's treatment, ordered tests, procedures, medications and hospitalizations.
  • On behalf of patients, coordinates service between clinic and other healthcare entities, such as insurance and medical referrals, or other public health or social services.
  • Consistently provides documentation which is legible, pertinent, complete and timely.
  • Routinely performs record checks as designated according to clinic policies and protocols.
  • Responsible for safety issues and utilization of resources to provide cost effective, quality care.
  • Consistently follows clinic policies and procedures.
  • Consistently utilizes universal body substance isolation protocols and other identified infection control policies/procedures.
  • Consistently provides appropriate feedback to peers and/or supervisors regarding systems or staff performance issues that affect safe, quality care.
  • Monitors various inventories, quality assurance requirements, standards, and other patient related needs.
  • Assists stocking of medical and pharmaceutical supplies; notifies appropriate staff when inventories are low.
  • Enters data for state-supplied childhood vaccine program.
  • Assists with documenting oxygen tank checks, checking for outdated supplies and medications.
  • Documents medical refrigerator temperatures and adjusts when necessary.
  • Maintains clinical and professional expertise through continuing education.
  • Employee will function at all times within guidelines established in the Island Hospital HIPAA Compliance Policies and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients and visitors.
  • Must meet regular attendance standard and must stay at or below average sick utilization levels.

What you will bring to the role:
  • Two (2) years of previous clinical experience in an out-patient Physician practice preferred.
  • Must maintain current Medical Assistant-Certified credential issued by the WA Department of Health.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification and a national certification as a Medical Assistant from AAMA or NHA.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; must communicate effectively with individuals from multiple disciplines.
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality, and possess excellent prioritization skills.
  • Ability to identify and use technology applications to increase efficiency and accuracy in support of clinic operations.
  • Ability to understand issues, and make decisions regarding data acquisition and management related to Electronic Medical Records.
