Job description

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic DFIR Director to join our Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) practice. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing complex incident response engagements, ensuring high-quality deliverables, and mentoring a team of skilled analysts. The ideal candidate possesses in-depth technical expertise, effective client communication skills, and a proven track record of managing DFIR projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Oversight & Client Engagement

  • Lead and manage assigned DFIR cases from initiation to closure.
  • Oversee quality assurance and risk management across multiple workstreams.
  • Conduct peer reviews of forensic analysis and reporting.
  • Consolidate and manage project deliverables and updates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, legal counsel, and cyber insurance carriers.
  • Schedule and lead client-facing calls and status meetings.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets and timelines.
  • Review and approve initial forensic reports.

Technical Forensics & Analysis

  • Perform hands-on digital forensics and incident response tasks as needed.
  • Utilize both commercial and open-source tools for forensic collection and analysis.

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback to assigned team members.
  • Support professional development and training initiatives.

Scoping & Engagement Planning

  • Lead or participate in scoping calls to define project objectives, scope, and resource needs.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure accurate and timely timekeeping and documentation practices.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in Digital Forensics and Incident Response.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership or mentorship role within a DFIR team.
  • Proven experience managing client relationships and leading technical teams.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with commercial forensic tools: FTK, EnCase, X-Ways.
  • Experience with open-source tools: KAPE, Eric Zimmerman's Tools, Velociraptor, Brimor Labs, Live Collection.
  • Strong understanding of forensic methodologies, incident response lifecycle, and threat actor behaviors.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • CCE – Certified Computer Examiner
  • CFCE – Certified Forensic Computer Examiner
  • GCFA – GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst
  • GCFE – GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner
  • GNFA – GIAC Network Forensic Analyst
  • GCTI – GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence
