About the role The Stainless Steel Shear & Fabrication Operator is responsible for operating manual shearing equipment and other fabrication machinery to process stainless steel components according to engineering drawings and production requirements. This position requires strong blueprint-reading abilities, manufacturing math skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual shearing equipment to cut stainless steel materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Perform layout, measuring, and marking of stainless steel materials.
  • Operate fabrication equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Roll forming and plate rolling machines
    • Drill presses
    • Band saws and cold saws
    • Angle grinders
    • Deburring equipment
    • Other fabrication machinery as assigned
  • Verify dimensions and quality using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and gauges.
  • Complete fabrication operations accurately while meeting production schedules and quality standards.
  • Safely move and handle stainless steel materials and fabricated parts throughout the production process.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report quality, safety, maintenance, or material concerns to supervisors promptly.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing, metal fabrication, or sheet metal experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and shop work instructions.
  • Strong manufacturing math skills, including:
    • Fractions and decimals
    • Measurement conversions
    • Basic geometry
    • Accurate tape measure reading
  • Experience using common measuring and inspection tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate fabrication equipment safely.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with fabrication operations.
  • Regular bending, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
  • Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment and moving materials.

Work Environment

  • Stainless steel fabrication and manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, dust, sharp metal edges, and material handling activities.
  • Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE.
