POSITION SUMMARY
An Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for managing and tracking a company's products and materials. This role focuses on maintaining accurate records of stock, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring the proper flow of goods from receiving to shipping. The specialist works to balance supply and demand, preventing issues like stock shortages or excess inventory.
To maintain optimal stock levels, this position requires collaboration with various departments, including procurement, logistics, and sales. The Inventory Control Specialist ensures that inventory data is accurate and accessible to other business units. This coordination is key to the timely replenishment of goods and the overall efficiency of the supply chain.
Through diligent tracking and management, the Inventory Control Specialist plays a vital part in the operational success of the business. Their work directly supports order fulfillment, helps to minimize waste, and ensures that products are available to meet customer demand.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and audits to reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and inventory records.
  • Analyze inventory data and generate reports to monitor stock levels, identify trends, and forecast future inventory needs.
  • Implement and maintain a system for organizing and locating items within the warehouse to optimize storage and retrieval.
  • Process and document returns, damages, and obsolete stock to maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory system.
  • Train staff on inventory control procedures.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and implement loss prevention strategies to reduce shrinkage, theft, and breakage of inventory.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or supply chain setting
  • Experience with data entry, record keeping, and using handheld devices like barcode scanners

EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • Prefer candidates with an associate or bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or supply chain management.

SKILLS:
Data Analysis and Forecasting: An Inventory Control Specialist uses analytical skills to interpret inventory data, identify trends in stock movement, and forecast future needs. This involves analyzing order patterns to anticipate demand and ensure optimal stock levels are maintained.
Inventory Management Software Proficiency: Proficiency in using inventory management software is crucial for tracking stock, managing records, and communicating inventory information across departments. This skill includes the ability to use ERP systems and other tools to maintain accurate inventory data.
Record Keeping and Accuracy: This role requires meticulous attention to detail for maintaining precise records of all inventory transactions, including stock received, shipped, and returned. Strong record-keeping abilities ensure that inventory data is accurate and reliable.
Problem-Solving: An Inventory Control Specialist must possess strong problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies. This includes identifying the root cause of issues and implementing corrective actions to prevent future errors.
Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication is essential for coordinating with various departments, such as procurement, sales, and logistics, to streamline inventory operations. This skill also involves building and maintaining good working relationships with suppliers.
Time Management and Organization: The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines is a key skill for an Inventory Control Specialist. Strong organizational skills are necessary for handling various responsibilities, from conducting inventory audits to managing daily stock movements
