Inventory Control Area Supervisor

Job Summary

Tellworks is seeking an Inventory Control Area Supervisor to support inventory accuracy, process discipline, and team execution within a high-volume distribution center environment. This is a supervisor-level Inventory Control leadership role reporting to Inventory Control Sr. manager, and with the opportunity to develop toward broader Inventory Control management responsibility.

The Inventory Control Area Supervisor is responsible for leading daily inventory control activities, supporting cycle count execution, researching inventory variances, submitting and justifying inventory adjustments, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring compliance with established inventory policies and procedures. This role partners closely with Operations, Inventory Control leadership, and customer-facing teams to identify inventory risks, resolve issues, and support accurate and timely reporting.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong inventory control experience, WMS knowledge, analytical capability, and a demonstrated interest in growing into broader leadership responsibility. This role requires someone who can lead associates on the floor, use data to identify and resolve inventory issues, communicate effectively across departments, and help build a culture of ownership, accuracy, and accountability.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct associates performing inventory control functions, including cycle counts, audits, variance research, inventory movements, and related inventory accuracy activities.
  • Support daily execution of inventory control policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Lead and coordinate regular efforts to verify inventory accuracy, including scheduled cycle counts, location audits, physical inventory support, and targeted inventory investigations.
  • Research inventory variances, identify root causes, and partner with Operations and IC leadership to drive corrective actions.
  • Monitor inventory control metrics and help ensure facility performance meets internal and customer expectations.
  • Use WMS data and inventory reporting tools to identify inventory risks, transaction errors, process gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Operations leaders to understand inventory impacts related to receiving, put-away, picking, packing, returns, replenishment, moves, and other warehouse activities.
  • Research, prepare, submit, and justify inventory adjustments with appropriate supporting documentation, root-cause analysis, and approval routing in accordance with internal thresholds, customer requirements, and established Inventory Control procedures.
  • Support process discipline and transactional accuracy across warehouse teams by coaching associates and reinforcing proper inventory handling procedures.
  • Escalate inventory risks, process failures, aging variances, or recurring issues to IC leadership in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist with development and improvement of inventory procedures, work instructions, reporting tools, and control processes.
  • Support loss prevention efforts by helping identify trends, process breakdowns, inventory discrepancies, and potential areas of risk.
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy and operational performance.
  • Coach, train, and develop associates to improve inventory knowledge, process adherence, and accountability.
  • Help build a culture of ownership, accuracy, urgency, and continuous improvement within the Inventory Control function.

Job Requirements

  • 3โ€“5 years of inventory control, warehouse operations, quality, distribution, logistics, or related experience.
  • Prior leadership experience required; formal supervisory experience preferred.
  • Inventory control experience in a distribution center, high-volume warehouse, or 3PL fulfillment environment preferred.
  • Prior WMS experience required.
  • Experience with cycle counts, inventory audits, variance research, root-cause analysis, inventory adjustments, or physical inventory processes preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to identify issues, trends, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Strong process discipline and attention to detail.
  • Ability to document procedures, findings, investigations, and corrective actions clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to lead associates, set expectations, follow up on performance, and reinforce accountability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Operations, customer-facing teams, and site leadership.
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks, and respond effectively to changing business needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work hands-on in the operation.
  • Audit, compliance, or inventory control framework experience preferred.
