Position: Mechanical Engineer - Tier II
Department: Mechanical Engineering
Reports To: Mechanical Engineering Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer - Tier II is responsible for the design and development of complex automated mechanical systems, ranging from single and multi-station assembly applications to fully integrated turnkey assembly cells with comprehensive quality management. This role provides technical leadership to designers and detailers, ensures successful integration of design concepts, and maintains accountability for project scope, schedule, budget, and performance targets.
Essential Job Functions
  • Perform complex mechanical design and analysis using Autodesk Inventor, including stress, deflection, and cycle time calculations for specialty equipment and R&D projects.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project notebooks, open issues lists, station planning sheets, meeting notes, and customer documentation.
  • Support the sales team by defining project scope and creating conceptual layouts based on customer specifications.
  • Work directly with customers to ensure delivered equipment meets RFQ requirements.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering and assembly leadership to support overall project execution.
  • Manage performance against target hours, budgets, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of internal and contract engineering resources.
  • Create and maintain project schedules to ensure milestones and timelines are met.
  • Partner with Processing and Purchasing teams to ensure timely procurement, manufacturing coordination, and cost control.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews as required.
  • Provide hands-on support to the assembly floor and participate in machine debugging activities.
  • Participate in customer runoff and acceptance activities.
  • Support mechanical design and layout development during the proposal phase.
  • Assist Field Service as needed, including troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Apply knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems (preferred).

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET) with 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or machine design environment preferred.
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant manufacturing or machine design experience required.

Mandatory Qualification Requirements
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of cost-effective manufacturing processes, geometric tolerancing, machining methods, and basic stress and performance calculations.
  • Ability to support manufacturing by resolving assembly and machining issues.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and global safety standards (CE).
  • Experience using MS Project or similar scheduling tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to peer-review and check the work of other engineers.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
