As of Jul 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for bim modeling in Indiana is $38.38, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $29.76 and $41.39 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much do BIM modelers make?

BIM modelers typically earn between $50,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced professionals with advanced skills in Revit or Navisworks can earn higher salaries, especially in large firms or specialized sectors.

Are BIM modelers in demand?

BIM modelers are in high demand in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries due to the increasing adoption of Building Information Modeling technology. Employers seek professionals skilled in software like Revit and AutoCAD, and demand is expected to grow as projects become more complex and require detailed digital models. Certification and experience can enhance job prospects in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BIM Modeler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BIM Modeler, you need a solid understanding of architectural, structural, or MEP design principles, typically supported by a degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field. Proficiency in BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD, along with certifications like Autodesk Certified Professional, are commonly expected. Attention to detail, strong collaboration, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills are crucial to ensure accurate digital representations, efficient project coordination, and successful delivery of construction projects.

How does a BIM Modeler typically collaborate with architects and engineers during a project?

BIM Modelers work closely with architects and engineers by creating, managing, and updating digital models that integrate design and technical information from all stakeholders. They frequently participate in coordination meetings, review design changes, and resolve clashes between different systems in the model. Effective communication is essential, as BIM Modelers must ensure that all parties' inputs are accurately represented and that the model complies with project standards. This collaborative environment not only streamlines workflows but also helps to detect and address potential issues early in the project lifecycle.

What is BIM modeling?

BIM modeling, or Building Information Modeling, is a digital process that involves creating and managing detailed 3D representations of physical and functional characteristics of buildings or infrastructure. It enables architects, engineers, and construction professionals to collaborate more effectively by providing a centralized model that contains all the project information. BIM modeling helps identify potential issues early, improves project efficiency, and supports better decision-making throughout the building lifecycle.

How much do BIM modellers make?

BIM modellers typically earn between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced professionals with advanced skills in Revit or Navisworks can earn higher salaries. Certifications and proficiency in 3D modeling tools can also influence compensation.

What is the difference between Bim Modeling vs CAD Drafting?

AspectBim ModelingCAD Drafting
CredentialsOften requires certifications in Revit or NavisworksTypically requires AutoCAD certification or equivalent
Work EnvironmentPrimarily used in collaborative, 3D building information modeling projectsMostly 2D drafting in design and documentation phases
Industry UsageCommon in architecture, engineering, construction industriesWidely used across various engineering and design sectors
Search/Comparison IntentOften compared for project coordination and BIM implementationCompared for traditional drafting and documentation tasks

While Bim Modeling focuses on creating detailed 3D building information models for project coordination, CAD Drafting emphasizes 2D drawings and technical documentation. Both roles are essential in the design process but serve different purposes within the construction and engineering industries.

What does a BIM modeler do?

A BIM modeler creates and manages Building Information Models using software like Revit or Navisworks to develop detailed 3D digital representations of construction projects. They collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate, coordinated models that facilitate design, analysis, and construction planning. Strong technical skills and knowledge of building systems are essential for this role.

Job description

GeoSearch is actively seeking a BIM Coordinator in Sullivan, IN. This is a full-time, on-site position. The BIM Coordinator will support electrical project teams by managing building information models, coordinating clash detection efforts, and facilitating clear communication between electrical, engineering, and construction stakeholders. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting up and maintaining electrical BIM models, integrating models across trades for coordination purposes, reviewing design changes, and supporting the development and execution of BIM standards and workflows. The role also involves preparing coordination meeting content, documenting issues and resolutions, and working closely with project managers to ensure model data supports procurement, prefabrication, and field installation. The BIM Coordinator will uphold data integrity, auditable documentation, and clear accountability across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Strong BIM expertise with a focus on electrical systems, including model coordination, management, and integration in a multitrade environment
  • Experience coordinating electrical systems โ€” conduit, cable tray, power distribution, and equipment โ€” in a BIM environment, including clash detection and constructability review
  • Familiarity with other trade disciplines (mechanical, plumbing, structural) sufficient to participate in and support multitrade coordination efforts
  • Project management capabilities, including stakeholder coordination, issue tracking, schedule awareness, and thorough documentation of decisions and changes
  • Proficiency with common BIM and coordination platforms, including Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, or similar tools; experience with reality capture or point clouds is a plus
  • Experience on data center or other large-scale, high-density electrical projects preferred
  • Ability to work on-site, collaborating with multiple project teams and translating model data into actionable information for construction, procurement, and prefabrication
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous process improvement
  • Relevant technical or professional education in electrical, engineering, or construction
