Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a Backend Developer to support and enhance our corporate intranet built on the Akumina platform, integrated with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365. While prior Akumina experience is a plus, we will provide training in Akumina for the right candidate.

This role is ideal for a developer with proven experience supporting and maintaining enterprise intranet backend systems, integrations, and services, who is eager to learn and grow on the Akumina platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support, maintain, and enhance backend services for our enterprise intranet
  • Develop and manage integrations with SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, and other enterprise systems
  • Work with SharePoint Online APIs, Microsoft Graph, and REST services
  • Assist in the development and customization of Akumina apps, widgets, and data providers (training provided)
  • Ensure performance, scalability, security, and reliability of backend components
  • Support authentication and authorization using Azure AD / Entra ID
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions
  • Participate in deployments, upgrades, and environment configurations
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, UX designers, and business stakeholders
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and operational support procedures
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Proven experience as a Backend Developer supporting enterprise intranet platforms
  • Strong experience with SharePoint Online development and backend support
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • .NET / C#
    • RESTful APIs
    • Microsoft Graph API
    • Azure services (App Services, Functions, Storage preferred)
  • Experience supporting production environments, including monitoring and issue resolution
  • Understanding of cloud-based application architecture and security
  • Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD pipelines
Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Experience with Akumina (not required — training will be provided)
  • Experience supporting other intranet or digital workplace platforms
  • Familiarity with SPFx, Power Automate, and Power Apps
  • Experience integrating intranets with HRIS, CRM, or other enterprise systems
  • Knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
