Company Background

Alamance is recognized as a leading manufacturer of aerosol whipped cream, flavored drinks, freeze pops, and bottled water, offering beloved brands like Classic Cream, Fun Pops, Coffee Toppers, Whipt, and Groovy Glacier. We produce, pack and ship private labels based on customer specific needs. An innovative company with proven experience in creating exciting new products that redefine what is possible in the food and beverage manufacturing industry.

Position Opportunity

We are seeking two highly analytical and detail-oriented interns to support critical sourcing initiatives focused on shelf life management, supplier compliance, and inventory optimization.

While this is a single internship program, each intern will be assigned a primary focus area:

  • Pops (Frozen Novelties): High-volume, variable demand, higher exposure to slow-moving inventory
  • Aerosol: Shelf-life sensitive materials with elevated compliance and traceability requirements

Both interns will follow the same core structure and collaborate on shared deliverables, while developing deep expertise within their assigned product category.

Project Overview

Shelf Life, SLOB, and Supplier Data Optimization – Cross-Category Initiative

This project is designed to strengthen how we manage raw materials, supplier data, and inventory health across the organization. Interns will work cross-functionally with Sourcing, Quality, R&D, and Operations to standardize processes and improve data visibility.

Key Responsibilities

Shelf Life Standardization

  • Review and understand item master setup across assigned product category
  • Define and document shelf life for all raw materials and applicable SKUs
  • Establish minimum remaining shelf life requirements for receipt and shipping
  • Identify and classify materials as lot-controlled vs. date-controlled (manufacture date, expiration date, or both)
  • Standardize tracking of production and expiration dates
  • Develop a standardized lot number format
  • Ensure supplier requirements include lot numbers, manufacturing date, expiration date, and minimum shelf life on receipt

COA Alignment

  • Validate alignment between supplier COAs, internal specifications, and quality standards
  • Identify discrepancies and support standardization efforts
  • Ensure consistent definition of chemical, microbiological, and quality attributes

SLOB Identification & Reporting (Leads: Tyrell / Aish)

  • Identify slow-moving and obsolete raw materials (30/60/90+ days of supply)
  • Analyze inventory against forecast, usage, and safety stock levels
  • Support classification of excess vs. at-risk inventory
  • Partner with R&D to facilitate testing and keep/toss decisions
  • Support disposition strategies, including resale or reallocation where applicable

RM Tracker Optimization & Maintenance (Lead: Tyrell)

  • Partner with Scanco team to enhance sourcing and inventory reporting
  • Support automation of key metrics:
    • Days on Hand (DOH)
    • Shelf life remaining
    • Inventory turns
  • Develop visibility into aging and at-risk inventory
  • Align reporting outputs with shelf life and SLOB initiatives

Defectives Tracking & Supplier Credits (Lead: Tyrell)

  • Support development of an automated tracking system for defective materials
  • Assist in documenting issues and submitting supplier credit requests
  • Help standardize workflows for defect tracking and recovery

What You Will Learn

  • Raw material lifecycle management across multiple product categories
  • Shelf life governance and its impact on operations and food safety
  • Inventory optimization strategies (SLOB, DOH, inventory turns)
  • Supplier compliance and COA validation processes
  • Data-driven decision-making using ERP/reporting tools (Scanco)
  • Cross-functional collaboration across Sourcing, R&D, Quality, and Operations
  • Differences in sourcing strategy between high-volume vs. high-sensitivity manufacturing environments

Final Deliverables

By the end of the internship, each intern will present:

  • A standardized shelf life and traceability framework for their assigned category
  • SLOB analysis with actionable recommendations and risk identification
  • COA alignment summary with identified gaps and resolutions
  • RM tracking and reporting improvement recommendations
  • Defectives tracking and supplier credit process enhancements

Additionally, interns will collaborate on a combined summary of cross-category insights and standardization opportunities.

  • Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain, Business, Food Science, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to interpret technical and operational data
  • Interest in sourcing, inventory management, or operations
  • Comfortable working with systems, data, and cross-functional teams

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Detail-oriented and process-driven
  • Analytical and comfortable working with structured data
  • Curious and eager to improve systems and processes
  • Comfortable asking questions and validating assumptions
  • Focused on accuracy, consistency, and operational impact

Why This Role Matters
