Britt, Peters, & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineer (Mass Timber Division) at its Greenville, SC location.

Job Description

Job Description: Create schematic concepts to convey and vet innovative structural solutions. Evaluate new design software and implement as relevant. Write excel or other programs for specific designs. Work with Universities on desired research focuses. Develop workflows and tools for Mass Timber design. Explore new framing concepts and materials to advance the Mass Timber initiative. Work with and contribute to our Embodied Carbon initiative. Provide training to staff on new topics and available tools. Provide project specific support on initial concepts, costing, and unique situations. Provide QC at various stages of all of BPA's Mass Timber projects. Explore multiple topics related to Mass Timber construction to improve our efficiencies of materials and avoid construction issues. Build and maintain relationships with key industry connections such as CLT manufactures. Provide creative solutions to architectural and construction issues and constraints. Perform initial conceptual then final detailed structural design and documentation. Perform calculations including static/dynamic finite element modeling. Develop and maintain project schedules in conjunction with the project teams to meet milestones and completion dates. Position requires 5% domestic travel to visit clients, construction sites, and attend company meetings and conferences.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field. Position requires two (2) years of experience as a Structural Engineer, Construction Coordinator, or a related occupation. Employer will alternatively accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, with no experience. Position requires two (2) years of experience with the following with a bachelor’s degree, or knowledge of the following with a master’s degree: the mass timber industry; collaborating with multiple stakeholders; negotiation; growing market share within the engineering arena; European and North American wood design codes; workflows, software and tools used for mass timber design; costing or pricing for the purpose of developing and negotiating quotes and proposals; efficient use of materials and construction; and project management. Skills can be gained concurrently or through academic program.
