Job Summary:
Supermicro Computer is seeking a motivated and passionate Thermal Engineer to support the thermal architecture, design, analysis, and validation of thermal solutions for networking server and data storage products. This entry-to-mid level role focuses on contributing to the integration of thermal and mechanical designs within server and rack systems for new products. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundational background in thermal engineering principles and a desire to grow in chassis/rack design for enterprise electronics.
This role will be based in our headquarters, located in San Jose, CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing and designing thermal solutions for chassis/rack systems in data center applications, following industry standards
  • Support evaluation of system layout, power consumption, airflow, acoustics, sensors, and related mechanical requirements
  • Contribute to component, system, and rack-level thermal and mechanical design activities for cooling systems
  • Help prepare product drawings, BOMs, SOPs, DFM documents, and basic system design/test reports
  • Participate in thermal/mechanical debugging, system optimization, and documentation efforts
  • Analyze basic structural and thermal aspects to support feasibility assessments and help specify thermal interface materials and manufacturing processes
  • Support the team in exploring and applying new techniques for thermal/mechanical development and validation

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (or Master's preferred) in Aerospace, Thermal, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in thermal engineering (or equivalent academic projects/internships with strong thermal focus)
  • Basic knowledge of thermal management hardware (computer or server is a plus), heat transfer principles, materials, and cooling devices
  • Familiarity with general mechanical/thermal engineering analysis, validation, documentation, and communication practices
  • Understanding of mechanical/thermal topics (cooling devices, airflow, temperature management, power considerations, mechanical design) is required; knowledge of electrical/power systems or HVAC is a plus
  • Strong team player with a positive working spirit and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

Salary Range
$109,000 - $117,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
