Job description

Who We Are

ITAC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping small and mid-sized manufacturers grow, compete, and modernize. Through hands-on advisory services, ITAC supports companies in improving operations, adopting new technologies, accessing funding, and building more resilient businesses. As the New York City affiliate of the nationwide Manufacturing Extension Partnership, ITAC works closely with manufacturers across diverse industries to deliver practical, results-driven solutions tailored to the realities of operating in New York City.

Who You Are

ITAC is seeking a NYC-based Technology & Innovation Advisor to help manufacturers across the five boroughs take practical steps toward automation, digital tools, and AI adoption.

This is a high-ownership, client-facing role on a small team, working with many businesses early in their technology journey. Success is measured by client engagement, projects advanced, and paid implementations. The role emphasizes speed, practical execution, and action balanced with quality, safety, and sound implementation practices, rather than extended analysis or long planning cycles.

You will guide manufacturers from education through execution, focusing on right-sized, cost-effective solutions that deliver near-term value. While many clients are early in their technology journey, others are more advanced; accordingly, engagement and delivery will be tailored to each client's needs, capabilities, and level of readiness. This role requires a consultative advisor with strong business development instincts who can convert interest into funded projects and maintain momentum across a high volume of clients.

What You'll Do

Client Engagement, Education and Conversion

  • Engage directly with manufacturers to understand business needs, challenges, and opportunities
  • Explain automation, digital tools, and AI in clear, practical terms
  • Manage a high volume of client engagements simultaneously, prioritizing progress and forward movement across many opportunities
  • Convert client interest into scoped projects, commitments, and revenue
  • Build and manage a pipeline with accountability for conversion outcomes and project revenue generation
  • Develop strong knowledge about ITAC's non-technology services so you can discuss them effectively with manufacturers when needed

Practical Technology Assessment & Road mapping

  • Identify high-impact, low-barrier opportunities within client operations
  • Evaluate digital maturity, workforce capacity, and budget constraints
  • Develop simple, actionable roadmaps that prioritize immediate next steps and ROI over comprehensive long-term planning

AI Readiness & Adoption (Practical Focus)

  • Introduce manufacturers to foundational AI concepts and practical use cases
  • Recommend simple AI applications (e.g., workflow automation, basic predictive tools, AI-assisted quality checks)
  • Guide clients on starting small and building internal confidence
  • Promote responsible and secure AI use

Solutions and Implementation

  • Identify appropriate tools, platforms, and technologies suited for small manufacturers
  • Maintain a network of trusted third-party experts and vendors (e.g., ERP, automation integrators, AI solution providers etc.)
  • Design and manage low-risk pilot projects with clear metrics, budgets and timelines
  • Support implementation and guide next steps based on results
What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, computer science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing technology, digital transformation, or similar
  • Strong understanding of automation, digital systems, or industrial processes
  • Familiarity with practical, real-world AI applications
  • Proven ability to convert client needs into funded projects
  • Experience influencing decision-makers and securing commitment
  • Experience working with small or resource-constrained businesses
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP/MES or industrial data systems
  • Exposure to Industry 4.0 / smart manufacturing concepts
  • Experience in a quota-carrying, business development, or revenue-responsible role (e.g., consulting, solutions engineering, or technical sales)
  • Project management experience
  • Background in consulting, technical advisory, or applied innovation programs

Core Competencies

  • Pragmatic problem-solving and rightsizing of solutions
  • Bias toward action and ability to move clients from discussion to decision
  • Ability to balance speed vs. depth, prioritizing client momentum and volume of impact
  • Commercial mindset focused on ROI and outcomes
  • Comfort operating as a generalist who coordinates specialists
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Curiosity and adaptability in a rapidly evolving technology landscape
What We Offer

Competitive compensation starting at $125,000 and up, commensurate with experience, plus bonus potential and employer-paid benefits.

Travel within NYC is required. There is very limited travel outside of NYC.

This role is based in New York City and requires regular in-person engagement with clients across the five boroughs. Candidates should be located in, or able to travel to, NYC on a regular basis to support these needs.

ITAC does not provide relocation assistance.
