Job description

Job Title: Systems Requirements Engineer

Job Description

The Systems Requirements Engineer will play a key role in supporting a high‑profile U.S. Navy weapon system as part of a system integration effort with a strong electrical engineering focus. This position ensures the compatibility of the weapon system, the ship, and associated facilities by managing and modeling electrical interface requirements at subsystem boundaries. The role requires accuracy, integrity, strong subject matter expertise, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with government and contractor stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compatibility between the weapon system, the host ship, and supporting facilities by managing electrical interface requirements at subsystem boundaries.
  • Process and evaluate changes to electrical interface requirements, including power, telemetry, software, electromagnetic interference, and cabling.
  • Model electrical interface requirements using appropriate digital tools and requirements management platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with government representatives, technical leads, and contractor stakeholders to clarify, refine, and validate interface requirements.
  • Review and interpret engineering requirements documents and related technical documentation to maintain accurate and current system requirements.
  • Support subsystem design activities by ensuring that electrical interfaces are correctly defined, documented, and integrated.
  • Utilize requirements management tools such as DOORS and model-based systems engineering tools such as Cameo to capture, track, and maintain requirements.
  • Contribute to product lifecycle management (PLM) activities by ensuring requirements are aligned with system configuration and design baselines.
  • Participate in document reviews to verify consistency, completeness, and accuracy of requirements and interface definitions.
  • Communicate requirements changes, impacts, and technical considerations clearly to management, technical teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Speak confidently to customers and large groups of stakeholders, both virtually and in person, to present requirements status, issues, and recommendations.
  • Apply a proactive, problem-solving mindset to identify, prioritize, and resolve higher priority issues related to system interfaces.
  • Manage multiple requirements changes simultaneously using strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Support systems engineering activities aligned with the Systems Engineering V model and key systems engineering milestones.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Approximately 2–6 years of related or relevant professional work experience, with at least four years of directly applicable experience in systems or electrical engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: DOORS, engineering requirements documents, and/or Excel for requirements analysis and tracking.
  • Strong understanding of electrical interface requirements, including power, telemetry, software-related interfaces, electromagnetic interference, and cabling.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with management, technical leads, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to speak confidently to customers and large stakeholder groups in virtual and in‑person settings.
  • High attention to detail when processing and documenting requirements and changes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple concurrent changes and tasks.
  • Proactive, problem‑solving mindset to address and resolve high‑priority technical and requirements issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge in one or more electrical engineering domains such as power, data, or communications.
  • Extensive understanding of the Systems Engineering V model and associated systems engineering milestones.
  • Experience with subsystem design and integration, particularly in complex electrical or weapon systems.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS for capturing and maintaining system requirements.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering tools such as Cameo for modeling interfaces and system behavior.
  • Exposure to product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and processes for maintaining configuration and design baselines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and with external stakeholders.

Work Environment

The Systems Requirements Engineer will work in a structured, engineering‑driven environment focused on the integration of complex naval weapon systems with ships and supporting facilities. The role involves regular use of digital engineering tools such as DOORS, Cameo, Excel, and PLM systems to manage and model requirements. Work includes both independent analysis and collaborative sessions with government and contractor stakeholders, often involving virtual meetings as well as in‑person discussions and reviews. The environment emphasizes accuracy, integrity, clear communication, and adherence to systems engineering best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
