Job description

Title: Shopify POS Lead 

Location: Los Angeles CA (3 days in a week)

Duration: 6+ months contract

 

Job Description:

Responsibilities
• Design, build, and lead delivery of Shopify POS UI Extensions for multiple retail use cases.
• Develop POS experiences using Shopify POS UI Extension components with React/TypeScript.
• Migrate older POS UI extension versions to the latest (APIs, components, breaking changes, rollout plan).
• Integrate with Shopify Admin GraphQL/REST APIs, Webhooks, App Bridge, and (optionally) Remix/Node.js backends.
• Set up CI/CD to build, test, and deploy via the Shopify Partners Dashboard.
• Configure Smart Grid to surface the right extensions by store/location/role.
• Actively monitor Shopify POS app release notes and POS UI Extensions changelogs, assess impact, and collaborate with Shopify Plus Support on issues or changes.
• Troubleshoot, profile, and debug production issues; drive RCA and prevention.
• Build/modify integrations with third-party systems.
• Collaborate with product owners on requirements and technical specs.
• Partner with integration specialists on enterprise data flows and with RFID specialists on store inventory operations.
• Provide technical support for new-store openings and international expansion.
• Support testing and deployments across dev/QA/stage/prod; use feature flags/rollbacks.
• Diagnose issues with POS peripherals and integrate new hardware.
• Mentor developers; enforce code quality, observability, and security best practices.


Qualifications
• 12 years total IT experience, including 5+ years in POS/E-commerce for large retailers
• 3+ years hands-on Shopify POS development (POS UI Extensions, App Bridge, Admin APIs).
• Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), React, TypeScript.
• Solid understanding of Liquid Templating Language and Polaris Component for Admin experiences.
• Proven integrations with payment gateways, tax engines, loyalty/fraud platforms, ERP, Inventory, OMS.
• Experience with REST and GraphQL; working knowledge of Shopify Admin GraphQL API, Webhooks, AWS EventBridge.
• Ability to design and develop custom Shopify apps for specific user scenarios.
• Proficient with Git and collaborative workflows (PRs, code reviews).
• Strong debugging skills, attention to detail, and ownership mindset.
• Excellent communication and time-management; comfortable leading cross-functional initiatives.
