Job description

Who We Are: The Intelligent Systems Division develops automated solutions for commercial and government clients in multiple domains including transportation (traffic management, connected automated vehicle), manufacturing robotics, medical prognostics and communication standards. Objectives of this Role: Serve as a researcher and software developer on teams developing hardware and software solutions for technology areas such as uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs), connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), and industrial robots, among others. Develop, test, and deploy hardware and software systems related to perception, localization, navigation, communication, and/or control for systems with varying degrees of autonomy or intelligence (e.g., driverless cars, automated off-road ground vehicles, industrial robots, UAS). Develop novel concepts and technologies related to mobile robotics, industrial robotics, and mobile manipulation. Additional information about the type of work conducted by the Robotic Autonomy Section can be found at: https://www.swri.org/industries/autonomous-vehicle-research-testing Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Participate in all phases of the development cycle, including requirements definition, hardware/software systems design, implementation, testing, and integration. Develop software systems to enable UGV, CAV, industrial robotics, and/or UAS applications. Support integration, configuration, testing, and deployment of UGV, CAV, industrial robot, and/or UAS hardware and software systems and applications in real-world settings. Support and eventually initiate advanced research and development programs, interact with clients, make technical presentations, prepare technical reports. Requirements: Requires a Bachelors or a Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. 0-2 years: BS candidates must have relevant academic coursework and project experience and/or internship experience. MS candidates must have relevant research experience. Strong software development skills and experience required (preferably object-oriented programming language, such as C++ and/or C#). Systems engineering experience or exposure preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well individually and as a member of a technical project team. Ability to safely operate, drive, enter/exit vehicles quickly and safely, climb vehicle ladders, navigate around cables and crawl into vehicle interior spaces. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
