TheAdvanced Registered Nurse Practitioner(ARNP)delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. TheARNPis alsoexamines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.
Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

The APRNwill perform a patient assessment to include medical history and physical exam and in collaboration with the physician mentor and develop an appropriate plan of care in the direct management of patients with severaleye conditions, includingneuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma, as well as exploring areas ofconsult services,ocular surface services, oculoplastic, and tele-ophthalmology/virtual care. TheAPRNworks directly with staff, administration, patients, and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in selected practice areas. TheAPRNintegrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in healthcareand technological advances into the scope of practice. Additionally,he/sheparticipatesin the collection of researchdata, quality improvement, dischargeplanningand coordination of patient care.

Assessment/Diagnosis: Assesses patients by interviewing/examining the patient, reviewing the patient's medical history, physician's diagnosis and orders, diagnostic test results todeterminemedical diagnosis, plan of care andmonitorpatient's progress.
Providespatient/family educationregardingdisease processes, treatment options, treatment outcomes,possible complications, medications, dischargeplanningand lifestyle modification.
Evaluates aswarrantedby patient's condition, daily, by assessment of physical findings,laband diagnostic test results.
