Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop features and workflows in the Unity Editor to support platform configurations for TV and mobile devices.

  • Profile and optimize WebGPU/WebAssembly performance, focusing on load times, memory management, and browser-hosted Unity runtime constraints.

  • Investigate and resolve bug reports to ensure a stable platform.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a new team delivering Unity platform support for a key platform partner bringing games to TV and mobile form factors. To reach every screen, we will be leveraging both streaming from Linux in the cloud and Web browser builds to be instantly loadable.

The team's goals include delivering stable platform support, realizing developer workflows for Unity users to unlock the unique features of this platform, and leading optimization initiatives to enable Unity to be efficient on the widest possible array of target devices.

You have probably worked on performance-critical, cross-platform applications in the past and you know the importance of writing fast, portable and scalable code. You may also be familiar with real-time, browser-based application development using technologies such as HTML5, WebGL/WebGPU, WebAssembly/Emscripten; and/or Linux application technologies such as SDL, Wayland, Linux desktop.
What you'll be doing

  • Working as part of an agile team, to design and develop features and workflows in the Unity Editor to support these specific platform configurations.

  • In collaboration with Unity R&D teams around the world, profile and optimize WebGPU/WebAssembly performance - tackling load times, memory management, and the unique constraints of a browser-hosted Unity runtime.

  • Ensure a stable platform by investigating and resolving bug reports

  • Strengthen quality and delivery through automated testing and thoughtful code reviews - while fostering a culture of innovation, teamwork, and technical excellence.

What we're looking for

  • Strong C++ in a large production codebase. Modern C++, in performance-critical systems where memory, threading, and cache behavior are things you reason about deliberately.

  • Meaningful WebAssembly experience. Emscripten in the browser is the most direct path, but we're open: Rust compiled to Wasm counts, and so does Wasm outside the browser - server-side compute, Node, edge runtimes, or work on the runtimes and toolchain themselves. If you've wrestled with binary size, startup time, linear memory, or the host interop boundary, that's what we're after.

  • Solid understanding of how applications span languages and runtimes. How synchronous and asynchronous calls cross the boundary, and how memory is owned and marshalled between them.

  • Proficiency with profiling tools across CPU, GPU, I/O, and memory - and the habit of measuring before optimizing.

  • Experience designing and implementing scalable features in a large multithreaded codebase.

  • Working proficiency in C#. Unity's Editor and much of its tooling is C#, and you'll write it. Deep prior C# isn't required if your systems fundamentals are strong.

You might also have (optional)

  • Familiarity with real time 3D rendering techniques and graphics APIs including WebGPU and/or Vulkan

  • A methodical approach to researching and developing innovative optimization solutions

  • A passion for the future of computer games or real-time 3D experiences in a variety of settings

  • Familiarity with how to best use AI in the software development process.
