Description: Elementary School Psychologist 

The School Psychologist is responsible for the psychoeducational assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and MTSS problem-solving meetings to design and implement systems, programs and services that maximize students' social, emotional, and educational success. Additionally, the School Psychologist provides direct services and consultation to students with identified needs. See more detailed description of responsibilities below. 

Reports to: Director of Learning Support 

Terms of Employment: 10-month Position 

Salary: Commensurate with degree level and experience 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must currently hold or be eligible for a State of Delaware School Psychologist certification and licensure
  • Successfully completed a supervised internship.
  • Hold a valid National Certified School Psychologist Certificate.

  • Act ethically and professionally, as well as promote a culture of excellence with high expectations for all students and community members.
  • Dedicate actions to the belief that all students can learn when they are challenged, supported, respected and motivated.
  • Collaborate with families and the school community to determine a student's educational needs and provide recommendations for interventions and supports.
  • Evaluate the needs of students to determine eligibility for special education services as well as the need for behavioral intervention and counseling supports.
  • Member of an interdisciplinary child study team to provide psychological services.
  • Consult and collaborate with, support, and/or coach individual or teams of teachers/school personnel regarding classroom management, individual student needs, data collection
  • Participate in pre-referral problem-solving teams (e.g., academic and behavioral response-to-intervention)
  • Evaluates the intellectual, academic, behavioral, perceptual-motor skills, emotional adjustment and readiness for learning of students.
  • Interprets evaluation findings.
  • Report behavioral data analysis and progress to appropriate entities.
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist in developing Behavior Support/Intervention Plans.
  • Provides consultation for students, parents and professional associates.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling as needed.
  • Provide crisis-related social-emotional and behavioral support, including de-escalation and participation in risk/threat screenings.
  • Participates in follow-up procedures concerning all aspects of the psychological services.
  • Facilitates school-wide intervention programs such as Instructional Support Teams and Behavior Support and Response to Intervention.
  • Assists with in-service training and assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
  • Create behavior management plans in consultation with building staff.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, to include reporting of assessment results and progress, providing input for decision-making (e.g., eligibility, programming, manifestation determination).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
