Job Title: Medical Coder - Inpatient/Outpatient
Specialty: Medical Coding - Inpatient and Outpatient (multi-specialty coding backlog support)
Place of Work (City/State): North Chicago, IL (supported facility) - remote/offsite performance
Site: Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) and affiliated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs)
Location: Offsite/remote via Government-approved VPN; not on-site at the FHCC campus (3001 N. Green Bay Rd., North Chicago, IL 60064)
Duration: 1 year + 4 option years
Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM Central Time
Credentialing/Onboarding Time: 6 - 8 weeks
Certifications (Mandatory - at least one):
  • AHIMA: RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P, or RHIA
  • AAPC: CPC
Experience Needed: Minimum 3 consecutive years of continuous coding experience at a facility with patient volume comparable
Special Skills Needed:
  • ICD-10-CM (Diagnosis) and ICD-10-PCS (Facility Procedure Coding)
  • CPT, E/M Level Coding, HCPCS
  • Oracle Cerner and 3M/Solventum application knowledge
  • English proficiency (spoken and written)
Responsibilities:
  • Review provider medical record coding for completeness and accuracy
  • Query providers via encrypted Outlook email using Provider Query Foundation OneNote / 3M-Solventum 360; close queries within 30 days with a final impact determination
  • Maintain ≥95% coding accuracy across CPT/HCPCS, E/M, and ICD-10-CM/PCS
  • Meet GS-8 Fully Successful productivity: Outpatient 16-19/day, Surgery 7-9/day, Inpatient 4-5/day
  • Complete record coding within 7 calendar days at ≥95% compliance
  • Maintain current credentials, competency checklists, and CE records; submit to COR within 48 hours of award or upon request
Misc:
  • Government-Furnished Equipment: laptop, two monitors, docking station, keyboard, mouse
  • No billing/remuneration from patients; strict conflict-of-interest restrictions
