Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Utah Jazz (NBA) & the Utah Mammoth (NHL), franchises of the Smith Entertainment Group, are looking for an aspiring Video Editor Intern to join our dynamic creative services post-production team. This position will primarily focus on editing a wide variety of videos and short-form content for the sports franchise they are selected for, as well as other departments and teams within SEG.
The right person for this position must be well-versed in the post-production process of telling concise, visually pleasing stories, and have an attitude ready to learn. This person should be able to see a project from concept to completion and bring new ideas to the creative voice of the team. In this role, you will need to have a good sense of visual composition, take direction, be open to notes, and be versatile. You'll be able to combine your passion for sports with video production in this internship. Expected to work 20-30 hours a week, but the business needs may require 40 hours at any given time. The duration of the position is planned for August 2026 to August 2027.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Edit videos surrounding the Utah Jazz or Utah Mammoth teams such as hype videos, interviews, short-form videos, as well as assisting on all other video projects where needed.
  • Edit run & gun style event recaps .
  • Sift, sort and organize new footage for junior and senior editing projects.
  • Assist junior and senior editors, creators, and designers.
  • Aid on-set productions as a production assistant. Tag video and help organize new content after game nights and recent video shoots.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:
Pre-Production
  • Ability to prepare necessary materials in the pre-production process such as mood boards, shot lists, reference and inspirations, and more.

Production
  • Understanding of shot composition, movement, and other in-camera techniques to enhance the story.
  • Being able to be given direction and smoothly control solo run-and-gun video shoots.

Post Process
  • Basic video editing techniques (like transitions, and layering of clips)
  • Basic color correction (like balancing log footage).
  • Coloring and grading experience (Davinci Resolve or other) is a plus.
  • Basic audio adjustments (experience with Essential Sounds in Premiere Pro).
  • Ability to mix sound and sound design is a plus.
  • Assistant editing and project preparation.
  • Preparing proxies.
  • Creating assembly edits for more senior team members to take over.

General
  • Understand frame rates, codecs, and other technical specifications of cameras and video.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (such as Premiere Pro, Audition).
  • Motion Graphics (such as Adobe After Effects, Blender, C4D) experience is a plus.
  • Experience and comfortability using Apple products and macOS.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4 Year degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-1 years of demonstrated professional experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Interest in the NBA and NHL is preferred.
  • Flexibility in schedule to assist on productions (including weekends).
  • Experience editing quick turnaround projects.
  • Solo run-and-gun operation experience preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for the creative and filming processes.
  • Be hands-on and proactive.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both in writing and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to lift 50 lbs.
