Indiana University (IU) Northwest Office of Career Services provides career development assistance to students and alumni for successful career planning, assessing skills and interests, and obtaining gainful employment to realize educational goals.
Job Summary
Departmental Specific Responsibilities
  • Serves as a consultant to academic departments, student organizations, and faculty on career readiness integration.
  • Coordinates and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
  • Provides tailored career advising for multiple populations (e.g., graduating seniors, adult learners, or industry-specific career tracks).
  • Provides career coaching, in both 1-on-1 and group-based settings, on multiple topics including career exploration, job and internship search strategies, and writing professional correspondence.
  • Facilitates multiple career-related events, workshops, and classroom presentations on topics relating to job and internship search strategies and the career development process.
  • May instruct credit-bearing career courses on topics that range from basic career development and life design to industry-focused job and internship search strategies and internship-for-credit.
  • Maintains expertise in labor market trends, workforce demands, and industry hiring practices.
  • Supports the planning and execution of career fairs, networking events, and employer panels.
  • Manages and promotes the use of online career tools, platforms, and resources.
  • Collects and analyzes data on student and alumni outcomes; contribute insights for continuous improvement of career services programs.
General Responsibilities
  • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
  • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
  • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
  • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
  • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of students.
  • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions
  • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
  • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years in career consulting or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate career fairs, employer visits, and special programming.
