Primary Purpose
Provide students with instruction in Health Science courses that prepare them for careers in healthcare and related fields. Develop students' academic, technical, and employability skills through classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, clinical observations, and work-based learning opportunities.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with appropriate Health Science certification or eligibility for certification
  • Current healthcare-related credential preferred (CNA, LVN, RN, EMT, Medical Assistant, etc.)
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Experience
  • Minimum of two years of healthcare industry experience preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with high school students preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Planning and Delivery
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Science courses.
  • Prepare students for industry-based certifications.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Integrate real-world healthcare scenarios into instruction.
  • Maintain a safe and effective learning environment in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Differentiate instruction to support all learners.

Clinical and Laboratory Management
  • Maintain health science laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and infection control procedures.
  • Supervise students during laboratory activities and clinical experiences.
  • Coordinate clinical rotations, job shadowing, and internship opportunities when applicable.
  • Maintain required documentation for clinical placements.

Student Assessment
  • Assess student progress using formal and informal evaluation methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, certifications, and competencies.
  • Analyze student performance data to improve instruction.
  • Prepare students for state assessments and industry certification exams.

Program Development
  • Promote Health Science pathways and healthcare career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare partners, colleges, and industry representatives.
  • Participate in recruitment activities for Health Science programs.
  • Assist with advisory committee meetings and program improvement efforts.
  • Support Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as HOSA-Future Health Professionals.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and district training sessions.
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
  • Follow district policies and procedures.
  • Participate in campus and district initiatives.
