Job description

Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense SECRET security clearance eligibility is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Human Factors Engineer based in Pittsfield MA.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate virtual and physical equipment to ensure designs meet military standards (MIL-STD-1472) and are safe and effective for users.
  • Work with engineering teams to improve designs and systems based on human factors principles.
  • Use 3D CAD-based tools like Siemens Process Simulate to assess ergonomics, usability, and functionality.
  • Apply expertise in human capabilities, ergonomics, and user interface design to create optimized systems.
  • Hybrid work environment with a minimum of 2-3 days per week on site.
  • Travel up to 20% to collaborate with clients, teams, and test sites.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Expertise in MIL-STD-1472 and applying human factors to defense systems.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime, naval systems, and human performance.
  • Experience in evaluating hardware designs and using digital modeling tools.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to teams and leadership.
  • Experience developing schedules and budgets to support statements of work, requirement verification, and formal deliverable creation.
  • Ability to work independently and obtain a Secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience in defense contractor roles or U.S. Navy programs.
  • Skills in fire control systems and maritime combat hardware.
  • Proficiency with digital human modeling tools like Process Simulate or similar software.
  • Background in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or system architecture.
  • Advanced degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, or related field.
  • Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation.
